Hello! My H left last week for Navy basic. When should I be expecting our Tricare insurance to kick in? I have not yet received anything from my H. Thanks ladies!
It's retroactive to the day of his enlistment, but you won't be able to get routine appointments and such until he adds you to his page 2 and into the system - normally occurs at the beginning of training. If you have an emergency though, don't hesitate to go to the ER, you'll just submit the paperwork to Tricare after.

I didn't think it was of his enlistment, but rather from the day he actually got to boot camp and went through processing. The thing is, you will need to enroll in DEERS and get an ID card to go to the doctor. If you didn't get a POA before he left, then you won't be able to do this without him present.

It is actually day he goes to basic/boot. I fell into that situation 2 years ago. Just make sure you get a hold of his recruiter and they should help you become active in DEERS. Once you're active in DEERS you will have to get your dependent ID card which you need to guard with your life your local DEERS station which is the local base to you. For that you will have to go to. Not only will that allow you on bases it acts as your med card. The one thing you need to be aware with TRICARE is their DEERS systems have been acting a fuss lately. With my first they had a glitch in the system and I was dropped so I had to pay the full costs of having a baby... Not cheap! Once that happened we dropped TRICARE for a year and well I got pregnant again. We went back to them since they have one of the best programs or prenatal care. All you need to do is watch all TRICARE info that comes in your mail make sure that youre active in DEERS. Honestly you will love having TRICARE. Is your Hubby Active or reserve? If he is active you will really love having TRICARE. My husband is Reserve and well the TRS isn't as great as active.
