So, while DH and I were in Boodle's room with me trying to point out a bug to him so he could kill it, Toodle was in the bathroom (about 8 feet away) where the tub had been run.
It was only about a minute, but still...
Oh, and when I realized and ran in to make sure he hadn't drowned, he was holding a bottle of body wash and squirting it, it was all over the floor, and he was wiping his mouth and making a disgusted face. Cue call to poison control...(FYI, he said it's not dangerous, just gross, and only concern is if it makes him sick and he vomits/diarrheas and gets dehydrated).
I'm so ashamed - I'm SUCH a stickler on safety and stuff and can't believe I did this. Plus now I'm terrified of him doing stuff like that while I'm nursing Boodle and can't chase him all over, since as of tomorrow he's home full time with us. Our house is VERY childproof but DH and I have been showering in their bathroom since ours has a leak and so there were additional bottles and stuff out that aren't usually there and within reach.
Re: My turn with Mother of the Year trophy...
We have all been there. Two kids is hard to juggle. When i was nursing all the time with two at home I gated us all in the family room/nook area. It was the only way I could be assured she would get into trouble.
But if it makes you feel better... I get them from daycare.. open Lilah's door and have her climb in, close it and strap Amelia in, then go back and strap Lilah in. She has said "strap me in Mama" TWO times while I was clipping my seat belt in.
It's all good. What doesn't kill em' makes em stronger!
You are Mother of the Year!!
Having more than one child at home is so hard, you can't know until you've been there. You are doing great.
Yeah, that would freak me out too! They are sneaky and quick those toddlers!
FWIW, Penny loves to try to eat toothpaste, dishsoap, shampoo, handsoap, etc. ALL the time. I have to make sure that she cannot reach any of those things. Who would want to eat dishsoap? She's crazy.
Ditto Beebe about the breastfeeding. I used to have all of us gated into the living room together. I also had everything I needed for the day (changes of clothes, diapers, etc) downstairs with me so I didn't have to worry about Reed on the stairs.
Yes... it happens to everyone! I was changing Gwen or Nolan, or DH... who knows, and had forgotten to drain the tub all of the way when Linc fell in head first. I freaked and felt horrible. They are so quick!
Ocean breeze or something, not even fruit flavored! Weirdo.
Thanks, ladies. We don't have a gate on our TV room (where I usually nurse her), maybe I will have to look into getting one. Although our nursing days may be limited anyways...
It's never a bad idea to have a "safe zone" in your downstairs for the kids anyway. I would get the gate for peace of mind. Toodle can go pretty far in the time it takes you to make a bottle or change a bum;)
Well our whole downstairs is pretty much a safe zone - the only obvious risk is the basement door because even though it has a hook, he can get it open (but we're getting a catch put on it next week). I just don't like not seeing what he can get into since who knows what he'll discover.
I think I went wayyy over the top with the baby proofing.. I had latches and locks on everything. I put the chairs up on the kitchen table...I got rid of our coffee table. No picture frames or lamps on side tables...heck, no side tables! Reed chipped his tooth on the leg of his high chair. Got rid of the high chair.
Most people would probably care about what their house looks like to other people but keeping two kids (13 months apart in age) safe was most important to me. The amount of anxiety I gave myself over things being on the floor that they could put in their mouths? Too much! But we all survived that phase. The baby gates are rarely used nowadays:)
