Soft cervix at 33 weeks

Hi ladies

So I had my OB check me this morning because I have had some cramping. LO was breech but it now head down. He said my cervix was closed but it was soft. Last time he checked me (30 weeks). It was hard and firm.

Do you guys remember when your cervix was soft and when did you deliver. Im just curious if I should be concerned about going too early

Thanks ladies and congrats to you!

Re: Soft cervix at 33 weeks

  • Are you starting to thin (or efface)? I had PTL at 29 weeks and mycervix was soft. I was starting to funnel but not efface. With bedrest and meds i lasted 7 weeks on bedrest. At my 36 week appointment i was now effaced (90%) and dilating. I went into labor 8 hours later.

  • Hey! Thanks for responding. He didnt say anything about effaced just that it was soft. Im not sure if that means it will begin to efface or that I will begin to dialate. He is going to check me again next wed

  • I would ask if he doesn't tell u. Softening isn't as bad as thining/effacing (although your cervix needs to be soft to thin/efface)

  • I don't remember with my first pregnancy, but this time around my cervix was a bit soft around 30 weeks. I delivered at37 weeks, but my 30 week appointment was the only one I remember the OB saying it was kind of soft. All the other appointments she would talk about how dilated and effaced I was.

  • My cervix was soft at 32 weeks (checked due to bleeding) and DD was born at 40w2d.

While, I wouldn't completely blow it off, it's definitely not something I would worry about too much.

  • My cervix started getting soft at 28w.  I delivered via c-section (no labor at all) at 36w1d.

Was your Doc concerned?  I wouldn't worry about it, just keep an eye on anything that would indicate a change (blood, mucus, contrax, etc).

  • Hi, my cervix was soft and shortened to a 2 at 29 weeks.  DS was born after my water broke on it's own at 38.5 weeks.

I did have the steroid shots to help mature the lungs.  AND I went on bedrest.  I had a placental abruption as well...so a little different situation from what you have.

For my second child, I was 6 centimetres dilated and not even in labour yet!!!  She came a week late.
