Bad Mommy Moment

Last night I was messing around with my phone while I was laying in bed.  I turned off the monitor because when I download ringtones it makes weird static noises.  Anyway, cut to me waking up at 5 am, the monitor still off.  I felt horrible.

Luckily our bedroom and K's bedroom are right across the hall from each other, and I'm a light sleeper.  But I couldn't believe I did that.

Re: Bad Mommy Moment

  • You're goofy. This is not a bad mommy moment. I did this when we were trying to sleep train and Silvia sleeps on the other side of the house upstairs. I can still hear her cry, and they're past the "major" risk of SIDS. As long as LO's okay, don't beat yourself up about it. Thats just ridiculous.

EDIT: I know several mom's NOWADAYS that don't even USE a monitor. I couldn't do it, but their babies' are just fine too. Our moms' generation didn't always use them either.

  • We've stopped using the monitor all together.  DD is a very noisy sleeper and I could hear everything, even with the monitor on the lowest volume setting.  We leave both doors open and I'm also a light sleeper so I still hear her if she needs me.

  • The charge must have been low on our monitor one night, and it must have gone off sometime during the night. I have never woken up so freaked in my life when I realized it wasn't on. I feel ya.

  • I thought you were going to say that you woke up to hear her screaming...lol

I agree with PP that this was NOT a bad mommy moment!

  • Totally Agree.. not a bad mommy moment. If your LO was screaming you would have heard it. Don't be so hard on yourself.

  • That is not a bad mommy moment.  I used a movement monitor until my little one moved so much it wouldn't be effective. However, as a mother you would never sleep through your little one crying. I promise. It is something that our bodies won't allow us to do.  It is a good thing though. Lots of people don't even use them anymore. So no big deal. I think you were just more freaked out that you didn't hear the noise when you woke up.
