Success after IF

If your LO takes poly vi sol....

how do you give it to them?  Our pedi recommended we give them a dose daily once we got off formula.  The instructions say you can put it in anything - milk, food, puree.  So far, I've been adding it to a little applesauce, and they do ok with it, but it smells nasty!  It totally has that 'vitamin smell' to it.  I'm afraid to put it in their milk since it has such a strong smell & color.  Any tips?

  • I am so surprised so many take it from the dropper!  I haven't actually tasted it, it just smelled terrible to me!  Maybe I will give it a try giving it to them straight.  They are big gaggers w/ oral meds, though, so I guess we'll see.

  • Is it mostly for the Vitamin D?  Early on, our pedi recommended Poly Vi Sol and warned me he would most likely hate it.  She said she tasted it herself once and understands why babies dispise it so much.  I ended up buying Carlson Baby D drops instead, which were highly rated on Amazon.  Much less messy and no bad taste.  Only requires one droplet too.  I loved them.

  • I open thier mouths and squirt it in.  I've never mixed it with anything.  DD is 2.5 and takes it without a problem despite the gross taste.  She brushes her teeth right after to get rid of the yucky taste.  DS wills sometimes spit a small about of it out or makes gagging sounds but I figure he'll get used to it as well.  He is EBF and doesn't take a bottle so I can't give it to him that way and I haven't introduced the sippy yet.  I want him to get used to taking it like DD does so it's not an issue later.
