I know I did. And I'm sure like everyone else this varies. Now mine was a planned c sec. so they gave it to me afterward to make my uterus contract.
Basicly I'm wondering can you have a c sec and nothing?
And can they give you something else after your c sec to make you contract?
I had some complications after my c sec and I think it had something to do with pitocin. From what I have read about its side effects. So heaven forbid I need a c sec. is that even going to be a option...
Re: Did you have pitocin after your C sec?
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
(L&D nurse here): I've never been in one that DIDN'T get it. Some get smaller amts than others, and some get extra meds.
I'm sure you continued to get it (later) because of the clot & bleeding. For some reason, your ute wasn't staying contracted, so they gave you pit to keep it contracted. It isn't necessary after each birth, but some people are more susceptible to bleeding & may require it every time.

Not that I'm aware of, but I didn't really ask what they were giving me. I was under the impression that it was only pain meds.
I had an emergency c-section, though, after 3 hours of pushing, so I imagine my body was ready to do any of the normal post-baby stuff on it's own. Having a planned section might be different.
