Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Breakfast options?

I am bored with DS's breakfast. We alternate oatmeal with fruit and yogurt with a handful of cheerios. He LOVES both, but I can't stand feeding him the same stuff everyday anymore. What do you feed LO for breakfast? Can he have eggs? I've read conflicting info about eggs. He is just starting to like the texture of chunkier foods and feeding himself finger foods.

  • Check out www.wholesomebabyfood.com for guidelines on when and what to feed LO. They have lots of recipes and ideas too.

  • Egg whites can be an allergen. It has been shown that there's no greater risk for a reaction when started at 6 months vs 12 months. So we started Louie at 6 months and she's had no problems.

One of her favorite breakfasts is a cheese omelet because it's easy to pick up and chew. She also likes pancakes, bananas, cottage cheese, melon, and toast with apple butter.

ETA- if you don't want to do egg whites due to allergies, you can always make scrambled egg yolks.

  • I give DS pretty much all of what the pp said and more.  Today was blueberries with toast squares.  Yesterday was apples and yogurt.  DS hated scrambles egg yolks but we are going to try again at 9 months with whole eggs.  On the weekends I make pancakes and he loves those and sausage too.  Just experiment!

  • Wow does your LO's have teeth?  Mine just got two bottom ones and I have not given him any table food except that puffs cereal that melts and only a couple pieces. I am scared he will choke.

  • Thanks. I know about that website, but even that conflicts with the aap. I might try pancakes tomorrow - I bet he'd like those. As for PP's question about teeth - no, DS doesn't have teeth yet, but he eats puffs, yogurt melts, stage 3 jar food, meatballs (I break them up in pieces for him), bananas, cheerios...I just keep trying stuff. They dot need teeth, just need to be able to pick it up and mash it or chew.
