Is it worth asking for PIO? I have never been on it before and had a successfull first IVF w/crinone but I hate that it can cause spotting and I don't want to deal with that this time around. I asked RE about it and basically he said there was no reason to switch and that they were equally effective. I brought up being able to monitor progesterone and he said that measuring doesn't necessarily mean that it's getting where it's supposed to go so even if I push it, I doubt my progesterone will be monitored. Is it worth pushing for? FWIW, though I think the sups are nasty, that's not what makes me want PIO.

Re: PIO vs Crinone (I know it's been asked)
I think every RE has their own methodology on this. My offered for me to switch to supps at 8 weeks if I wanted to but preferred for me to stay on PIO.
Personally I wouldn't want to deal with the mess of doing supps and I even had an awful reaction to the PIO around 8 weeks where I could barely walk due to soreness. I chose to stay on the PIO because it was doing its job.
I did have an early triplet loss though so I'm not sure if that played into my RE's opinion for me to stay on PIO. All in all I think it should be the patients choice. If he says it is "equally effective" then why should it matter if you want to switch?
Also, for me the PIO was less expensive than the supps. I was glad to save a little $$ since I took it for 13 weeks!
Man that was long winded... sorry!

After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I did have an unexplained m/c with number 2...obviously I can pin it on sups since #1 was picture perfect but I just am nervous.

I've never heard of an RE refusing to let someone switch from supps to PIO (vs the other way), so if it would make you feel better definitely ask/request this. PIO is usually cheaper, but the pain is so not worth the savings, though success is obviously priceless. My butt still hurts.
