I have dealt with migraines since I was 13. Luckily they have been so infrequent lately that I don't really mention them. Well... Yesterday I got hit with one and while I was hoping it was just some bad headache, the light sensitivity and other migraine-tastic symptoms (paired with the fact that it's still here in full force) has me convinced I'm dealing with my first prenatal migraine.
I'm about to call my OB to see if there's anything I can take because even typing this I'm miserable (yes, I know, I know... computer screens are terrible but I wanted to know if any of you have dealt with migraines during pregnancy). It's hard to function and I've been sleeping off and on for 13 hours trying to get rid of it.
Blah.
Re: Migraines anyone?
I hear you ladies, I have also had migraines as long as I can remember. My OB told me to take 600mg of Motrin. He said that since it's really an infrequent usage, it will not harm the baby, and the dosage is enough to make the pain more tolerable. I haven't tried it yet (thank god) but I have it ready just in case.
I had a migraine about 2 weeks ago, and without medication, I really thought I would die, so the Motrin sounds good to me!
Yea I called my OB and they wouldn't approve anything but tylenol since I'm in the 1st tri. She basically sounded like "sucks to be you" but then again that could be the raging migraine talking.
I can't even go to class today because I just can't function (way to make an impression with my professor... but at least I emailed her and explained the situation I guess). It's hard to eat or drink because of this thing so I'm just hoping I don't end up in the hosp dehydrated because when I do eat or drink the headache makes me super nauseous.
Yes! I've suffered from migranes since I was young and with both pregnancies, they have been worse. I finally got to where I couldn't take them anymore and talked to my Dr. I usually take Excedrine Migraine, but it's a big no-no when you're pregnant. So the Dr. prescribed me vicoden. I only take it when the other option I'm looking at is having my husband take me in the backyard and shoot me. It helps so much and is safe for the baby.
I expressed my concerns with the Dr. about taking it, and he said that if I were to go into the ER, they would give me the liquid form of it anyways.

Luckily, I haven't had one yet but I get them full on complete with the aura and loss of my ability to speak. They are dreadful. I hope they get better for you- peppermint tea always eases some (not all) of the pain for me. Maybe that will help?
I hope you feel better soon!
I never had them until BFP. I had my first one during ACLS renewal...I was doing chest compressions on a dummy and had to go run and throw up. It was terrible. I took 3 Tylenols and drank cold water. It eventually went away, but I had a sore head for the next couple of days.
I asked my doc about this too, and she said they first want me to try Tylenol, and if (more like when) that doesn't work, they will prescribe me some Tylenol 3. She also said to drink a cup of coffee with the Tylenol, and I know caffeine does help take the edge off at least.
