Does anyone else have the britax chaperone? What kind of car do you have? Did you have any trouble installing the base properly?
We have a crv and a jeep grand cherokee, and I can't get the bubble in the level between the lines in either car! The seat doesn't go 'down' enough. I contacted britax and they sent me a new seat, thinking the one I had must be defective, but I'm having the same problem.

Re: britax chaperone
We have an older model of the same seat, and it doesn't have the bubble, it just has a line and says "make sure this line is level with ground surface." Any idea how hard it is to tell that when the base is sitting on the seat of the car and the ground is 2.5 feet lower? Yeah, I guess that's why they switched to the bubble. But I guess if mine is off by a bit, I'll never know, so I won't stress about it.
I'm also not sure that it actually fits on the seat right - the base seems like it's too long - it extends over the front of the seat by a little less than an inch, but I thought it was supposed to be completely on the seat. I have a Nissan Rogue, so it's sort of in-between your CRV and Grand Cherokee, size wise.
We haven't even seriously tried installing it yet, nevermind gotten the installation checked, so I have no idea if it's okay or not. I would guess that if you get it installed and get it as close as you can, then take it to the police or fire station to check it, they will be able to help or at least set your mind at ease. I hope so anyway - good luck!

Q. The base of the CHAPERONE infant car seat hangs over the edge of the seat when installed in my vehicle. Is this safe?
A. Historically, Child Passenger Safety curriculum has referenced an ?80/20 rule of thumb? ? which suggests that at least 80% of the child restraint?s base should be in contact with the vehicle seat.
Whereas this rule of thumb is a good starting point, changes in product design and materials among manufacturers have resulted in products that defy this guideline in both directions. Some products require 100% of the restraint?s base be in contact with the vehicle seat, while other products may allow for less than 80%. If limitations to standard installations exist ? it should be well documented in the user guide.
BRITAX has extensively tested the CHAPERONE infant car seat under all configurations possible within the FMVSS-213 standard ? with each result far exceeding the required standards.
This! We have it and it def hangs off the seat a bit, but not more than 20%. We also saw in the instruction book how they used a noodle at the back of the seat to help level the base.
Good Luck!
