WWYD - to take her to the pedi or not?

DD#1 started running a fever yesterday and was complaining she was achey and her throat hurts. It was almost 102 when she got home from school yesterday. (I sent her to school bc she didn't have a fever in the morning and I was hoping it was just a cold.). Anyway, a week and a half ago, DS had a big very similar to strep - very high fevers and a raw sore throat. I took him to the pedi because the only symptom I could see was the high fevers. This morning I was assuming that DD has the same thing though I was surprised that it could incubate for well over a week since DS hasn't had a fever since last Monday. Well, i just found out that 15 kindergarteners in DD's school have strep, which, of course, has the same symptoms. Would you take DD to the pedi today to get a strep test done or wait until tomorrow? Or Friday? If it is strep, we could get her antibiotics and get her back to school, but that's expensive. If it's not, I'll feel silly bringing her in for the same thing i just brought DS in for. WWYD?

  • Yes.  Do you guys have United grocery stores down there?   Amoxicillin is free through them.

  • I personally would take my DD today either to the pedi or the CVS minute clinic.  Mostly since it is a long weekend coming up I would not want to wait.

    This.

  • Ok, I called the pedi and talked to a nurse. She said to wait until tomorrow to bring her in. She hasn't had a fever for even 24 hours and they don't want to test too early when it might not show up on the test. I have an appt scheduled for tomorrow morning so I'm already on the schedule. I can just cancel if DD's fever goes away before that. The nurse said it really is a dilemma bc she agreed that she would guess it's the same bug as DS if it weren't for the school having strep. But, it's highly unusual for kids under 2 to get strep bc they don't have the receptors or something, so it's even possible DS had a strep bug with a negative strep test... So we'll go in tomorrow if nothing changes. Fun times.
