Clicky: If you have a BOY:

DS1's PreK class is learning about colors.   They are reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear and each day they have to wear a different color shirt.

Today was yellow.  Tomorrow green and Friday is Orange.   Next week, they are to wear pink one day and purple another.   Two questions, one clicky below.

As always, I like clicky polls because more people answer honestly.

  • DS doesn't actually own anything pink, but he has a couple of purple shirts that he loves and wears all the time.

  • I said yes...though DS doesn't have a pink shirt.  I'm not sure I'd buy one special for that-but I'd figure something out so that he could participate.

  • Obviously my DS is younger than school age, but I wouldn't have an issue with him wearing pink or purple.  He currently doesn't have anything pink or purple, and it would be unlikely that I would buy a shirt just for that day, but same goes for any of the other colors.

  • I don't have a boy, but boys around here would have lots of purple shirts (for the Ravens) and pink is all the rage with my 13 and 14 year old brother's group of friends.  Hot pink shirts, soccer shoes, backpacks, everything.  I was surprised, I have to say!

This is my take on it too.

However, as another poster said, DS does have purple and will probably always have something purple due to the Ravens. ;)

This. I might try to find something with a "pinkish" hue in it that he already has in his closet.

  • We have a plain pink & purple t-shirt (he has a sister) but I don't want to send him if he will be the only boy in pink.  I don't think the teasing starts in PreK but I don't want him to find out the hard way either...the South seems to be more conservative on this issue...

  • here's the truth - I would forget to go buy one (because he doesn't have pink or purple) and therefore, he wouldn't have one on.

*I* would have no problem with him wearing pink or purple.

Joey would likely not want to do it.  And Joe would be annoyed if I spent money on two shirts that he would likely never wear again.

But I would do my best to make sure he wasn't singled out for NOT wearing the shirt that is requested.

  • Ethan's fave colors used to be pink and purple. Of course, he used to love preppy clothes and always wore button-ups.

He has a purple nike tshirt, so yes, he'd wear it I'm sure, but I wouldn't go out and buy anything new.

EXACTLY this.  Well, except DS is school age and they have Ravens Fridays every week during football season, so lots of boys go to school wearing purple.

  • DS1's favorite colors are pink and purple.

  • Mine would. I'd be more afraid of not sending him in pink and him being the only one. I'm a rule follower, though, so I there is a special "wear this" or "bring this" day, I get very bent out of shape if I forget and DS doesn't participate. I don't know that I would buy a special shirt, but I make appliqu?d shirts for kids and generally have plain tees in every color here at our house.

  • DS has a pink polo shirt from Gap that's one of his favorites. If DS wanted to wear pink, that day or any day, it's fine with me.

Same here.  DS doesn't have a pink shirt and I'm not sure I'd go buy one specifically for one day of school.  I might see if any of my friends have one we could borrow for a day.

  • We don't have any pink shirts, but I specifically bought them a purple shirt from Children's Place for Purple day. It had old school video game graphics in the shape of a pirate ship, so definitely a boy shirt.

  • DS is 9 and in 4th grade...he just went to school today in a pink and white striped polo

  • We had to do this last year in K4 with DS1. He doesn't own any pink shirts so he wore white and I wrapped a pink bandana of mine around his wrist like a bracelet. There were a couple of boys in pink shirts, and one boy who wore a white undershirt with the word "pink" written on it in pink marker. If I had a pink shirt for him to wear, he would have worn it.

  • I have nothing against ds wearing pink or purple as long as he wanted to wear it, but he has nothing in either of those colors. I wouldn't go out and spend money on two new shirts just for this purpose.

I really HATE these kind of things. Loathe stupid dress-up school spirit kind of events. It singles kids out too much, IMO. Ds went to a day camp this summer and they told all the kids to wear their favorite sports t-shirt/jersey the next day. Ds doesn't own any sporting apparel, I was out of town, and dh didn't have time to find him anything on short notice. Ds was the only kid without an effing sports jersey on the next day and the other kids gave him a hard time.

  • DS loves the color pink.  I have no problem with him wearing a pink shirt and neither would he.  However, like the others, he doesn't own a pink shirt.  And I wouldn't buy one just for 1 day.   Maybe a salmon shirt would pass.

Actually, I think a ran a white shirt through the wash that turned pink... That would work!

  • One of Adam's favorite shirts is a pink polo from Gap.  And both my boys are Ravens fans (as much as a little kid can be, anyway) and wear purple Ravens shirts/jerseys often.

  • I have sent DS to school in purple. For the pink days, the teachers have said that red is close enough, so most of the boys wear.red that day.
  • I would have no issue sending him in pink....but I'm not sure he'd do it.  He doesn't have a pink shirt and I've tried to buy him a polo a couple times and he wants NOTHING to do with a pink shirt.  He also doesn't like yellow.

So, I'd encourage it, and maybe even spend the money on it, but I'm not sure he'd go through with it.

He didn't have a shirt for Disney Day either.

Disney Day?  I am a fan of going to Walt Disney World and don't have a personal ban against Disney for DD, but that is ridiculous for a school to promote a specific billion dollar company like Disney.

  • DS doesn't like to wear pink and he says it's a 'girl' color. He came out with this on his own. I remember when he wanted to buy pink shoes and I gave him the choice between pink Keens and yellow -- in the end he went with yellow -- but I would have been open to whatever he wanted.

So given that he's not into pink, I'd try to find something with a pink character or pink in it.

  • I would put DS in pink, I think it's super cute.

I love that at our preschool they do pink and gray on the same day so they can wear whatever they want.

This is my son as well, I don't think I could pay him to wear something pink, however, his favorite colour is purple.

  • Seriously, 15% would not let their kids!

My DS has a Ralph Lauren t-shirt that is pink, a RL dress shirt pink (might not fit anymore) and an ON pink shirt that would still be big on him.  It's a color dude.
