TTC After a Loss

2nd round of clomid is kicking my a$$...

So last month was my first round of clomid, and while AF showed up before I could POAS, the Dr. confirmed that I did ovulate and AF started on it's own, so I'm taking that as a small victory. The side effects weren't even that bad. But this month...oh my god! I'm only 3 pills in & I've been having hot flashes all day, I'm dizzy, I'm nauseous and I have one of the worst headaches. Has anyone else had side effects that change from month to month on clomid? I just want to make sure that this is normal, and maybe get a little sympathy from my fellow Bumpies lol!

Re: 2nd round of clomid is kicking my a$$...

  • Loads of sympathy! So glad you O'd - definitely a victory - but you're right, the side effects are crazy. Mine stayed the same month to month, so at least I didn't have that little complication. I don't have the technical knowledge to offer any advice, just hope it works for you soon. Hang in there!

  • My clomid cycles have all been different, too.  I took it several years ago to get pregnant with my son and the first cycle, which I didn't O in, there were no side effects.  The next cycle, I had lots of hot flashes, dizziness and nausea and I got pregnant.  I started taking it again last month and had some side effects - just 1 hot flash, some dizziness, nausea on one day and of course crazy over-emotionalness. The doctor confirmed ovulation.  This month, lots of crying/overemotionalness, but no other symptoms and it's looking like it's an anovulatory cycle - no positive OPKs this week.  So, for me, it seems like the more side effects I have, the better the cycle for ttc.  Hope it's that way for you and it works for you this month!

  • I have had 2 cycles of clomid that were less then lovely, both times they were the second of back-to-back cycles.  Usually what happens with me is I would do two cycles in a row, and then have to take a break because the clomid caused a cyst and we couldn't proceed with it that month.  They would put me on BCP for a cycle and then my next cycle with Clomid would be fine, the 2nd after that would suck.  After my first loss, I only went one cycle before we had to take a break again, so I didn't have a crappy cycle with clomid for the 2nd BFP.  Maybe its just doing the 2 cycles right in a row?  Good Luck with it anyhow!  Both times I got pg I was on Clomid, and it took no more then 2 cycles of clomid and triggering!

  • My 1st round I had hot flashes!! Every round since then... no hot flashes. Irritability has been the worst for each cycle. But really, that's about it. I did have headaches for a couple of the cycles, but not the other two.

So yes, my side effects have changed cycle to cycle.

  • I did one round of Clomid - and omg did it suck.  Headaches, dizzy, sleeplessness, you name it.  After that my dr moved me to Femara which gave me zero side effects (it also gave me a bfp after 3 cycles).  I am going to see about getting back on that instead of Clomid again.
