Success after IF

Intro- long

I'm working up the nerve to post here.  I lurked on TTTC/IF but only posted once or twice, because DH and I were on an exteded break from treatments (IUI's) and I never felt I had anything to contribute. I followed several of your stories and would check in from time to time over here.

Eventually it appeared we were going to be child free, not by choice.  I didn't know where to go at that point so I just kept lurking.  Then we got a phone call and everything changed.

DH's cousin delivered a baby boy at 26 weeks.  She was not in a good place and new she couldn't take care of him but she wanted him to be placed with a family member.  So 12 hours after he was born DH and I were called and asked if we would adopt him.  Of course we said yes right away.  From there it has been one heck of a roller coaster. We got a crash course in interstate adoption as well as being a NICU parent.  DS spent 104 days in the NICU in a different state than us.  We were able to call and check on him once we were granted custody and when he was finally discharged (one year ago today!), he was discharged to us.

Our adoption was finalized in February of this year.  Hands down, best.day.ever! We also found out about a month before his adoption was finalized that DS has Duchenne Muscular Dytrophy. Worst day ever. But we're moving forward one day at a time and for now we're enjoying watching our little guy catch up on milestones and loving every second with him.

Me- PCOS DH-MFI TTC since 2003, several clomid+IUI cycles all BFFN, Forced break due to OOP, turned into a permanent break Unexpected family/private adoption in 2010 DS born at 26 weeks, beat all odds in the NICU Diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 1/2011 Adoption finalized 2/2011- BEST. DAY. EVER.
