Trying to Get Pregnant

New & Need Advice!

We've been trying to concieve since July 2010. I went off BC then & wasn't on a super regular period until April of this year. I've been taking ovulation tests, I even bought a spit ovulation test to use. Obviously with no such luck. I also kind of tracked my BBT but didn't really get into that. I just thought it was super hard to keep track of things when my period was so irregular. July we did a really good job I felt at timing my ovulation & having sex but 2 pregnancy tests are negative. But I never got a period in August!

I'm so sick of peeing on a stick & having it be negative!!

I scheduled a Dr. appt for Sept 7th just to talk to someone & see if testing or anything needs to be done...I'm nervous..is this the right step? am I overreacting!? Is anyone else in the same boat!?

Hoping someone can ease my concerns!

Re: New & Need Advice!

  • Have all of your ovulation tests come back negative?  Did you test twice a day?  Some women miss their LH surge because they only test once a day.  Tracking your basal body temp is also really the only way to confirm O aside from an ultrasound, so I strongly encourage you to start tracking again.  Most of us use a website called Fertility Friend to keep track of our BBT (they even have an iPhone app that you can chart your temps and see your chart on); you can join for free by clicking on my ticker.  It may be that you are ovulating, but that your timing has been off.

Since it has technically been a year that you've been trying, I would definitely talk to your doctor.  They will test for common fertility signs, which include bloodwork (sometimes on specific days of your cycle) and an ultrasound to check your general anatomy.  They will also likely call for a semen analysis for your husband.  Based on these results, they may order more tests and/or refer you to a reproductive endocrinologist.  They are the end-all, be-all of conception specialists.

  • Good luck! I know how discouraging it can be getting a BFN month after month after month, just got my friendly little visitor today after 33 days... ugh.

  • I've gotten some positive saliva tests but even when those were positive & I would pee on a ovulation test those would never be positive!

I have an app on my phone that I keep track of BBT, ovulation, when we've had sex, and blah blah blah....but I just really got sick of taking my temp every morning, testing for ovulation every morning & making myself think of it every single morning...I think about it all day long as is!

I would go in good spurts of doing stuff & then nothing seemed to happen so then I get upset & quit testing & tracking thinking it'll happen when it's supposed to happen!

I'm just so frustrated! And seriously all of my friends are preggo....

Normally I'd avoid being the grammar police.  But seeing as you're an idiot in so many other ways...

    1. You're = you are

your = possessive word meaning owned by you

    2.  Capital letters are your friend.

    3. Complete sentences. They help. Or it's confusing. To read what you're trying to say.

OP:  Sorry to hear it's been such a rough road for you so far.  GL with the doctor visits.  I hope the results of your visit there are helpful.
