If you want to make a new mom very happy...

Offer her a shower!!! My friend just got out of the hospital yesterday, and I stopped by to see if she needed anything. She hadn't had a real shower since Saturday, and I was more than happy to hold her for a solid 30 min!!!! Totally fulfilled my need for tiny baby action, and makes me more excited to be almost half-way there!

  • Oh I totally agree.  I always had to wait to shower until my husband got home after the baby was born.  I loved taking a shower then.

  • That was very nice of you. I have a stupid first time momma question though. Are showers a no go when the baby is napping? If you have the monitor in the bathroom.

if they're a no-go then I broke that rule about fifty million times.  That was literally the only time I could shower.  As long as your little newborn is somewhere safe it's fine.

  • So, so, so true!  My mom was there for the first few days we were home, but after that, I remember being thrilled when DH would get home or my BFF would come over b/c then there was someone to handle the baby while I showered and DIDN'T have to worry about the tiniest noise that he made.  I would usually jump in the shower when he fell asleep, but often a shower and getting dressed were about all I could swing before he'd wake up - no doing my hair or makeup b/c he liked catnaps too much.

And nope, I had no problems whatsoever w/ showering while he napped... he slept in a cradle in our bedroom for the first month, so I'd lay him down in there and hop in the shower in our adjoining bathroom, keeping the door open between the bedroom and bathroom.  Worked perfectly.  In a pinch, I showered/got ready for church a few Sundays w/ him hanging out in his bouncer (which I put in the bathroom w/ me), too.

  • Yeah!  Love holding newborns!
