I'm in the military (due oct 12) and just got posted this past week, i've been wanting this posting for months to be with my fiance and it finally happend. So we pushed off shopping for baby things until we knew where I was going to be for the birth. Now we have one very empty baby room! My fiance the week I arrived had to go into the field for 10 days so its just been me here unpacking and trying to settle in. We have a bassenet that my god mom bought us (still in the box), a diaper genie (no bags), a baby swing, and a few little outfits! There is so much that needs to be done not mention I have to wait another week to meet with the military Doc who refers to me to a civilian doc who will be following my pregnancy, whats left of it anyway!
Re: Is anyone else very unprepared?!
I feel unprepared as well, there's still plenty of things that the baby needs and we still need to buy. However, if you need a nursery set, I got a really good deal on a set for a crib, dresser, and changing table, as well as a mattress for less than 800 bucks on SimplyBabyFurniture.com, it's a Davinci set. Just thought I'd let you know about that if you're looking for an actual furniture set as well as your bassinet. They also delivered really quickly.
Try not to stress to much if at all possible and just systematically work through what you still need to get. That's what I'm trying to do at least!
Graco has some good deals on furniture as well. Check out Amazon or Walmart for the better deals. I got the Graco Lauren crib and it was like $150. The cheapest I've found the Diaper Genie bags is on amazon as well.
I feel you with the waiting on the military thing (DH is Navy). Its like you wait a billion years and than have to go,go,go. Are you guys dual military? It sounds like if you are you got posted together which is fantastic.
Hopefully the doc transition goes smoothly (I've transitioned between docs twice in this pregnancy, I feel your pain on that too). If you can get your civilian doc a copy of your files, that will probably help (mine wanted it).
Good luck getting the basics lined up.

I am too- but this is my 2nd baby. . . so I have most everything, but have nothing ready. My husband is a former Marine- so I have several friends in a similar position as you. I'm so happy that your husband won't be deployed for the birth!
From your list, the only thing that you need right away is a car seat to bring the baby home in. There are lots of other odds and ends that you can get, but as long as the baby has a car seat, somewhere to sleep, and a way to eat, you will be fine the first few days/week. The rest could be done after the baby comes- or better yet order it off Amazon so you can do it when it's convenient for you and your fiance.
You don't need tons of clothes before the baby is here. I pulled out the few gender neutral items I saved from my son (we don't know the sex). I also got some more white side snap undershirts. It's mild where I live, so the undershirt and swaddle be perfect until I can wash all of the boy clothes I saved from my son, or get some girl clothes.
You'll get it all done, don't worry!

Yes we are both in the military (Canadian) and after 5 months of going through all the hurdles finally got posted together! Thank goodness! i know many people arn't as fortunate as us, but we are very grateful to be together, He is even suppose to be going on a field ex for a month over the babys due date but his chain is letting him stay back so he can be here for the birth. Times like theese make being in the military worth while.
Good luck with your birth and the rest of whats left of your pregnancy
