Babies: 3 - 6 Months

For those w/ LO who have milk/soy allergy!

Gerber rice cereal has soy in it!

Unfortunately I jumped the gun and started G on rice cereal 4 nights before her 4 month appt yesterday and when I told our pedi last night that she hadn't slept the night before and had 5 BM's in 24 hours he asked what cereal we were feeding her and when I said Gerber, he said THROW IT OUT!  Not even thinking it could have milk or soy in it, she has milk/soy colitis.  He recommended Beech Nut which is milk/soy free!!!   Last night was a lot better sleeping, but I now must be an ingredient reader.

Thank Goodness this milk/soy colitis usually goes away by a year! Hopefully this helps someone else!!!

  • That's so annoying.  Leave to Gerber to take something as innocuous as rice and add crap that's pretty high up there on the allergy list.  I'm a label reader and it wouldn't have occurred to me to check for that.

  • That's for posting this! Our daycare provides Gerber products; never would have thought to look/ask about this once she starts solids there and DD is on a hypoallergenic formula.

  • My LO has sensitivity to milk protein.  Does that mean I shouldn't use Gerber cereal?  The peds doctor told me to start rice cereal at 5 1/2 months, once a day.  Didn't say anything about Gerber. Very concerned b/c my LO is very sensitive.

  •  I think we used Earths Best for cereal.  yes- you need to read all labels....soy is hidden in everything.  DD1 grew out of it by 14 months if that makes you feel better

I did some research and we're switching to HappyBellies cereal ASAP.....they are organic, vegan, and contain NO dairy, soy or gluten!

Here is a link if anyone is interested, (I believe they also sell this at Target):
