Another NT post. Should I do it?

So I will be seeing the high-risk OB once a month, every visit includes an u/s. I'm wondering if I should even do the NT scan? I feel like the in depth u/s with the high-risk OB should tell us if there is something majorly wrong, no? I have my first one scheduled for 9/15, which will be at 12 wks.

I also see my regular OB on the 14th and my cardiologist the 21st. I'm concerned about asking for so much time off and the NT scan would just add another day to the list. Plus I'm not 100% sure my insurance will cover. I was told it would cover if "the state mandates it with other screening tests." Not sure what that means, but I'm starting to think that the NT scan is just becoming stressful in several ways.

WWYD if you were me?

  • I'd call whoever is doing your 12 week u/s and ask if they can do the nt measurements.  I don't see why they wouldn't or couldn't.

  • This may be a stupid question but does High Risk OB = Maternal Fetal Medicine practice?  Have you met with this Dr at all yet?

I ask because the place I've been referred to for my NT is a MFM practice, so if your dr is at a MFM I'd call and see if A) they are already planning on checking it out since you'll be at the right time or B) if they can add it.

If not I think scheduling another seperate u/s when you're already going to have lots might be overkill.  I think you're pretty low risk for downs, trisomy, aren't you?

Haven't met him yet, but he is a MFM. I def. know he does NT scans because I have a friend that went to him for hers (and I saw it on his website).

I suppose I should just call them.

I'm pretty sure that I am low risk. We have no factors....the only thing is my age, which isn't high (31). I suppose I should just call, they might be able to explain the insurance issue to me too. I just feel like all I do is deal with doctors lately, but I should get used to it!!! :)

  • I think 31 is still ok and it's not till 35 that they get "concerned."

Yeah Dr's are going to be part of the package for quite a while.

Well I will call and see what they say. I should be used to all these appointments anyways! It's not like it hasn't been like this for a while. I just always feel bad at work. Oh well.
