3rd Trimester

28 weeks, always breech

I know baby still have plenty of time to turn but what concerns me is she is ALWAYS head up, butt down.  All 3 of my u/s (where you can determine head, body, etc) she is breech.  I have never felt any kicks or jabs up top, it's always down in my bottom.  She's moves plenty but is it normal for a baby to never swirl around and not flip over a few times?  I mean I told the sonographer her position before she even viewed it on screen.  It never changes.

Re: 28 weeks, always breech

  • That is exactly how my first dd was. She was breech at the u/s at 36 weeks and flipped sometime over the following 2 days because we had a positioning u/s for an EV and she was in head down position much to our surprise.

We tried moxibustion, hot/cold compresses, spinning babies, swimming, etc. She flipped on her own.

  • That's how DS was. Feet down the ENTIRE pregnancy. At my appointment a few days before 38 weeks he was still breeched. I went into labor the day after 38 weeks and he had flipped, I hadn't even felt it. I felt all movement down low. This one is head down (mostly) and it's really weird to feel so many kicks up top.

  • same here- dd was breech... i was told that her turning was highly unlikely, and if she did turn i would 100% know because things are so tight in there. at 37 weeks i had a growth u/s and she had flipped. i had no clue. you'll be just fine. try not to worry.
  • There could be a reason she is breech.  Like something to do with your uterus.  Or she just likes to be head up :)

I just found out my baby was breech yesterday, and my baby has been head down the whole time until the past couple of weeks.  She was breech 10 days ago, and then head down last Thursday.  So your baby can flip at any time, even if he/she was in the other position all along.

I get to schedule a C-Section for next week or so, but I am still hoping she will turn and I will go into labor on my own, allowing a vaginal birth.

     Good luck!

  • My DS was breech at 28 weeks. I did some spinningbabies.com stretches (specifically, the head-stand thingy from the couch) every night for three weeks, then at my appointment yesterday (31 weeks 6 days), he was head-down! Wahoo!!! :D

I certainly know what you're going through. It's so stressful! Hang in there, do some exercises from that site and hope for the best. :)

  • Well it's great to know there's a chance she'll go down even though she really likes this position.  Thanks for the stories!

  • DD was transverse/breech through my entire pregnancy any time they checked. She finally went head down at 36 weeks and all was well.

  • I think a lot of babies like to be head up for awhile. I'm 28 weeks, and LO is very active. I feel kicks above and below multiple times a day, and tons of big movement I assume is her flipping around. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.
  • My LO never budged.  She stayed with her head up in my ribs the whole time.  Like literally she was in the same position for my 2nd and 3rd trimester.  Because of this I never got to see any cool movements like elbows or hands or feet.  I would just get bulges here and there.  And I tried all different kinds of exercises and nothing worked to move her.  I read that sometimes babies are breech for a reason.  So I ended up with a C-section.
