My home still doesn't have power and wont until Saturday as if that isn't bad enough, my WEDDING is on Friday night and the venue will not have power until Saturday. If I even meet a woman named Irene I will slap that biitch.
As of now, we are going to wait and hope that the power gets turned on a day early. I have made a call to the power company, however they don't think this is as important as restoring power to hospitals, nursing homes, schools and banks so it doesn't look so good. The wedding is in a large green house, so even if there is no power, we will use the light of the moon, candles and battery powered paper lanterns. The only problem is that the caterers wont really be able to cook. It just sucks all around, the salon that was going to do my hair and make up are affected by the power outages, my dress isnt complete and the tailor has no power either. I know it could be way worse but it is just so much more added stress.
That really sucks. I'm sorry, but at least you made it through the storm safely. But Irene definitely deserves a cooter punch, though. What's your backup plan?

I'm sorry hon, that's pretty shitastic. I got a flash of you on that Bridezillas show, talking to the power company. lol. I hope it all works out for you !
Can't your caterer rent a generator? I mean, do they expect you to pay them if they don't provide you any food? Seems to me that it would be equally beneficial for both of you if they went out and got themselves a generator. My daycare just did this...they couldn't purchase one because they were all sold out, but they were able to rent one. They would just need to hook up the refrigerator and stove/ovens to it, and maybe a light or two..
As for your makeup/hair.. can you make an emergency appointment with a salon a couple of towns away from you? There has got to be a place that has power somewhere that is willing to squeeze you in, given the circumstances.
Otherwise, I think your reception will be absolutely beautiful in the moonlight with candles and paper lanterns.
Keep your chin up... this sucks, but I have faith it will work out. Good Luck!!
At least you all made it out alright. You haven't lost your homes or have been flooded. (It is hard for me to sympathize after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustav. Yesterday was the 6 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina so it is fresh on my mind.)
Just focus on what the marriage will mean and on you and SO. All the other stuff is just stuff.
I can't believe you call the light company, now I would have never done that.
Of course I know things could be far worse. I appreciate the fact that my loved ones are safe. Me and H have been married for a couple of years, we eloped 10 days after getting engaged so this is just our celebration, I am not devastated, it just sucks. I called the electric company to see if there was anyway the area could be moved up on the list, I wasn't bitching at them or anything. I actually had to rush LO to the doctor yesterday because he had a piece of hair tightly wrapped around his toe and it was cutting off circulation. I am damn glad they were open and had electricity.

I think you have a great attitude about it. There are plenty of brides to be who would be freaking out and letting it ruin their wedding.
I would just try to relax and enjoy. As long as everyone you want to be there, can be there, you're going to have a great celebration. And teenagefbi is right. Candles and pb&j sounds pretty badass.
I know it sucks a lot, just put it all into perspective, you know? A candle lit ceremony sounds kind of bad ass anyway, even if you guys have to eat p&b sandwiches.
Ya, I figure that as long as the band is playing and the booze is flowing, it will be a great time.

I'm sure the caterer was paid in advance. Legally, I don't think you can blame the for a hurricane, and in a lot of places, they aren't responsible for an "act of God" or natural disaster.
I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. Like pp's stated...everything will fall into place for you. I know it sucks now, but make the best of it and enjoy your special day. I hope you have a wonderful time...regardless of the circumstances!
I am so sorry to hear that! I'm a dispatcher for the power company here and I would totally have somehow bumped you up. And yes it is good that everyone is safe, but I'm sure you've been looking forward to this day for a LONG time and it just sucks all around.
They do, but it is only for heat. It is a green house, so lights aren't necessary, but heat is (in the winter of course)
Um, that sounds like a lame-o excuse from the venue. It's a matter of switching plugs...
The ceremony sounds really awesome, but I'd be ticked about the food. It's crappy of the caterer to not try to make good on the deal. Emjay's right, but it's still not good business practice.
ETA: I'm sure you'll figure this out, and I bet in 5 or 10 or 50 years, this will be an awesome story!

Oh I am SO sorry! I think the ceremony will be absolutely beautiful, but the food situation sucks. I know a lot of restaurants and grocery stores have back up generators for emergencies, is there any way you can get finger food from somewhere else?

Our caterer is stepping up and preparing food off site and carting it to the venue. it will be a PITA for them, but at least they are doing everything they can

I'm sure it isn't close to what you wanted, but could they grill? Grilled chicken, veggies, etc. I feel so bad for you. Just get drunk & try to make the best of a horrible situation.

Do you have a plan for your hair and makeup yet? I was just thinking, I don't know what style you wanted, but you could always go to bed the night before with damp hair and mouse in it, put it in sock curlers and sleep on it, then the next day you'll have beautiful waves (assuming your hair is long-ish) you can leave down or pin up with maybe a flower in it. As for makeup, like PPs have said, everyone's skin looks beautiful in candle light so I think you're good. If you have to do it yourself, I was a makeup artist and manager for Nordstrom cosmetic department, so if you need tips just ask or PM me!

I agree! My wedding was cancelled by the venue the day before our wedding because of snow, and we ended up getting married in a friend's living room with apps from Trader Joe's and Two Buck Chuck. It was awesome. I hope yours turns out really well. Good luck!
