A couple months ago I took Hadley in for a feeding eval. I discussed my concerns over Hadley's lack of movement at that time and so they scheduled us for a motor eval, which occurred yesterday.
She has actually made huge headway in the mobility dept. since then, but she still isn't anywhere close to where she should be at her age.
The eval went well and I was impressed with the 2 therapists interest in Hads. Bottom line is that because of her delay in gross motor skills and feeding issues, we qualify for EI. What's interesting is that she scored above her age bracket for both cognitive and fine motor skills. They couldn't believe how dextrous she is with her hands, but when it comes to pulling up or using her legs...not so much!
I'm trying to look at this as a positive. We're finally going to get some help and get her up to where she needs to be. I'm just sad that my girl needs the help. I really think the gross motor skills will come quickly. Just working with her yesterday has already shown improvement. She sat up in her crib last night by herself for the very first time. What I'm really concerned about is her issues with eating food. They've gotten worse lately and she's basically not eating anything but a couple bites a day and formula/milk combo. I am worried something is physically wrong with her so we're going to address that at her 1 yr. appt. next week.
Sorry for the novel! I'm just a ball of emotions right now. My baby girl is turning 1 in a week and I just want her to be ok!
Re: Starting Early Intervention...
It sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I hope she makes improvements in the eating dept. and starts pulling up. I'm sure you'll see a big difference once she starts the therapy.
I know as moms, all we want is for our babies to be 100% on their own. She'll get there!
I can't believe she's going to be 1 already!
I'm glad she will be getting help! I know you have been worried about her feeding issues for a while now.
I can't believe she is turning 1! I remember your BFP and it doesn't seem like it has been that long.
I posted this exact same thing a few months ago about Jake. He had a serious flat spot on his head and was really behind in is motor skills..
We went through the same EI process, we even went as far as to get him diagnosed through the state so that they would pay for it. He didn't qualify but the whole thing was stressful. Anyway, we did pt/ot for 5 months and it was really great experience. It wasn't a big deal at all..Js teacher just came to the house 2x a week for a half a hour and played with him. Yes, there were times that she made him do things that he didn't like..work muscles that were tight or that he didn't like to move...
We did PT/OT for 5 months and I saw such huge improvements. He is gross motor skills are now off the charts and he is walking/not talking everywhere. We have put a hold on the PT/OT for now but if issues come up in the next few months then I will not hesitate to bring them back..
II just know that everything is going to turn out great. YEs you have some valid concerns but your doing a great job and I am sure with some help she will be off the charts!
I also can't believe Hadley is going to be 1!
(((hugs))) I am glad you are getting help and I hope she has a burst of development in the gross motor skills and eating departments soon! I can imagine it's difficult, but hope that EI does the trick!
And how is she almost one already!?
