i got a huge target baby catalog in the mail last night and on the back was a coupon for a twenty dollar gift card if i set up a target registry. is it terribly tacky to set up a registry in order to get the gift card? i wouldnt tell anyone of the registry but suppose it would be easy to see if someone were to search. also i figure if i do set one up i would put some basics on it, bottles, pacis etc that i will be buying myself so i can get the completion coupon percentage off what do you think?

I would absolutely set up a registry. If people are looking for your registry and happen to find it, they obviously were looking for direction on purchases for you. Plus the gift card is fantastic. We set up registries for our wedding that we never used (and really didn't put anything on) so that we could be registered for prizes or get give-aways. Even the store told us that if we didn't actually want the registry, all we had to do was remove their default items the next day.

I agree with PP...and also if you wanted to you could make the registry private and not give the info to anyone. Then you can still get the discount on "leftover items" and your $20 gift card!

I'm on my 3rd baby and I set up a registry. It only has a few items on it, but the completion coupon is so worth it.

When I was expecting #2 I was able to use the completion coupon from my Buy Buy Baby registry to buy our double stroller. The completion coupon didn't have all of the restrictions/exclusions that their regular coupons do.

If your setting it to just get a gift card and discounts then that isn't tacky. Your not telling anyone to buy you stuff off of it. Plus if someone searches for you on there they must want buy something that to me isn't tacky cause you didn't tell them that you were registered. Heck I registered for the coupons as well. I don't plan on telling anyone about it. I just added small essentials, so we can use the completion coupon.

I did this with Babies R Us. I didn't think we were having a shower but then my MIL offered to throw us one. So it worked out in the end.

Great idea! I'm going to steal this. I will think of it more as a list for myself of things that I need to purchase, not so much a registry. But at least I can get the completion coupons (and maybe the $20 gift card if I can find the add you are refering to).

if you are looking for where i got this coupon . . . it came on the back of a target baby catalog. not a weekly flyer this is a full on catalog thicker than a standard magazine. it came in the mail yesterday and i have no idea why i got it. hopefully you will all get it also!

I did this for my wedding with a store lol.

I didn't have a registry for my wedding, but I set one up for the $25 gift card hahaha.

I put pots and pans on it and called it a day.

I got that catalog and coupon, too. All I had to do was pull up the page that had our names on it, print it in store and give it to the lady to scan when she gave me the gift card. They don't check what's on there, just the name and that it is a baby registry.

I dont think its tacky at all! I had the same coupon and started a registry at Target and I don't plan on telling anyone about it! I bought a nursing bra with my free gift card! Big Smile

Not at all! I have already had my shower so I just took the coupon up to target and the guy behind the counter didn't even want to check to make sure I had a registry!

Me too! I love coupons and I'll end up buying the stuff anyways. Why not make a list to keep track and then get a discount at the end? I've taken things off of it as we've purchased them (we've been buying bit by bit since this is a boy and we had a bunch of girlie stuff)...
