Lurker Comes Forward

After months of lurking, I realize it's time to contribute. Problem is - do I have anything interesting to share? Only thing I can think of is a minor cleaning success story.

I was recently given a hand-me-down, hand-me-down co-sleeper (I was third in line to get it) and was assured that both previous users were clean and responsible. Well, upon setting up the co-sleeper, I encountered a pretty bad urine smell in the cloth frame, which couldn't be machine washed. Yikes! How do you get rid of THAT?

I first wiped the sleeper down with a baking soda and water paste and let that soak in for a few minutes. Next, I sprayed the sleeper with white vinegar and watched it foam up (kinda fun). After the vinegar settled in, I wiped the whole thing down with a wet sponge, trying to soak up as much baking soda as possible. I then put out the sleeper in the direct sun for the afternoon. The next morning, I vacuumed the residual baking soda off of the sleeper and stepped away for the rest of the day. (I was tiring of this project by then.)

That night, I had a clean smelling co-sleeper. Another testimony to the wonders of baking soda and vinegar!

Every time my husband asks me how to clean a specific item he sighs and says "The answer is baking soda and vinegar isn't it?"

It was like a baby bassinette science fair volcano! (I'd probably hose the whole thing down and leave it to dry in the sun again, just to be thorough.)

Edit: I was just trying to think if I was productive AT ALL being that pregnant, and realized the answer is NO, because I only ever managed to get to 34 weeks before having the kid. So now I'm DOUBLY impressed at you for being productive AND for being pregnant still!

Love me some vinegar and baking soda!!! Great job! Glad it came clean, sorry you had such a PITA time w/ it though. I can guarantee I'd be tee'd off at this point in pregnancy w/ it. LOL
