I had my CD 3 blood work/ultrasound today and everything looks good to go to start Clomid this week. We will come back in next Wednesday to make sure everything looks good, do our Ovidrel trigger that night and have our first IUI for Friday morning.
I'm nervous about the trigger. The doctor reassured me I could do it myself. Get this, she told me that she hates needles and she was able to do it to herself when she was going through IF. Hmm. That sounds strange to me. A doctor who doesn't like needles? Call me crazy, but I think a doctor... any doctor... probably has a higher tolerance to needles than most people, right? So that didn't really make me feel better.
For those veterans who have gone through this already, can you give me some idea of what to expect with the trigger shot? Any tips or advice? Do you have your husband do it? Does it hurt more than... say...a flu shot?
Thanks in advance! I hope everyone's having a good week!

IVF #1= BFP. m/c at 7w6d. Needed 2 D&C's and scar tissue removal. Mild OHSS
IVF #2 = BFP. Severe OHSS. 4 Drainings. TWINS!
You'll do great...I have a huge fear of needles and I just completed my first cycle of Follistim + Ovidrel.
I do them myself and the trick is to pinch up a wad of skin and do a quick, dart-like motion. Don't be tentative with it or it will hurt more - I made that mistake once.
Good luck!
Follistim & IUI finally brought us a BFP
IT's TWINS!!
I think it hurt less than a flu shot. I think it's feasible a doctor not like needles - especially when they're getting the shot themselves! I think I did some of them myself, some of them my husband did. The needle is really thin so I don't think it was a big problem!
Good luck!!
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

I'm petrified of needles. I lose sleep over having to get shots. But, I do my Ovidrel myself. It hurts soooo much less than a flu shot. I like doing it myself rather than having MH do it, I feel in control and can mentally prep myself.
Good luck!!

Cycle #11: BFP
Ovidrel is a sub-q shot and WAY less painful than a flu shot, which is an intramuscular shot. It already comes prefilled and it is really easy. It always takes me a moment to give myself a shot--kind of like ripping off a band-aid--but the trick is to do it quick and you won't even really notice the needle going in.
Good luck!

It's definitely a case of mind over matter...the most difficult part is psyching yourself up to do the first one. After that...piece of cake!
I did all my own injections, and it hurt MUCH less than the flu shot because the flu shot is IM and these are sub-q. And this is coming from someone who used to cry (really) when the doctor had to give her a needle or draw blood.
Do all your prep work and sterilization, just pinch an inch on your tummy about an inch away from your belly button, stick the needle in, let go of the pinch (or you'll bruise more), push the plunger all the way down and then leave the needle in for 5 seconds before removing it and you're all done!

I am a nurse. I draw blood and give injections regularly.
I sweat and have passed out during blood draws and injections on myself. Sorry...we might be able to see blood, but doesn't mean we like the sticks any better!
But I gave myself my Ovidrel with no problems.
