Do any of you still swaddle?

Reading a post about how you dress your baby for bed got me wondering how may are still swaddling LO. I still do, LO still seems to wake himself up with his arms. DS is not rolling over, and he never seems to move while sleeping, and most of all he seems to really enjoy it, but when is it not OK to keep swaddling?

Re: Do any of you still swaddle?

  • I have friends that have swaddled until 6 and 7 months.  LO is 3m4d and we are still swaddling with no end in sight.

  • Right now I can't imagine not swaddling.  He can't stay asleep for long periods with out it.  We've tried, in the crib, the swing, carseat.  He is still startling, a lot.

I am not looking forward to the day we have to stop, I think its one of those things that tells him its time to sleep now.  I have a friend who swaddled for 5 months, but I am guessing that is too long....  ???

His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!

  • We are still. She is not rolling and when she sleeps swaddled she doesn't budge an inch. Last night I swaddled her 1 arm out because she has recently started self soothing by sucking her hand (she will NOT take a pacifier). That went fine. Not sure when I will stop swaddling.

  • Still swaddling here too. I have tried not swaddling for naps, but she just wakes herself up with her arms within 10 minutes. I plan on asking the pedi at our next appointment. It's gonna be a sad day for me the last time we swaddle.

  • We do for bedtime, it is part of the routine so she knows it's time to got to sleep. I plan to continue until she starts rolling. I am not looking forward to stopping because when we started at 9w was when she she started sttn.

  • When we put LO to sleep for the night, she is swaddled and in her rock n play. Then we dreamfeed around 1030pm, take the swaddle off, and put her in her crib unswaddled. She is usually so sleepy by then she will stay asleep through the night.

  • We're still swaddling, but I can't help but think we'll have to stop soon. She's constantly kicking out the bottom (she's so long) and trying hard to roll from back to tummy when not swaddled. She doesn't move when she is. I don't want to stop, though, and we'll probably move to sleep sacks when we do.

  • I still swaddle DD, arms out.  And she's rolling both back to tummy and tummy to back.  She doesn't move much in her sleep though, except from side to back.

  • We still are.  He breaks out regularly as he wakes up at night though.  I'm scared to switch, although I've bought a sleep sac.

I've tried not swaddling for naps, and he wakes himself up after 10 or 20 minutes.  I'll stop swaddling when he rolls, but he seems a ways away from rolling back to tummy.

  • We stopped cold turkey when she started rolling.

For those of you that say your LO can't sleep without it...there is going to be an adjustment period when you deswaddle, but IME, it doesn't last more than a week. Also, for the sleep cue, a sleep sack worked well for the transition period, but I ditched that once she went back to belly.

I'm happy to be done with it, and so is DD.  She's now sleeping on her tummy and back to STTN after her new found love of rolling :)  She also loves to suck on her hands to soothe herself in the MOTN.

  • We have probably swaddled our daughter 3 or 4 times since bringing her home. She sleeps fairly well on her own, and I could never get them snug like the nurses lol, so we never really bothered. Once it is cool, we're just going to put her in some sleep sacks with arms.
  • We still swaddle for nighttime.  I'm in denial that we'll eventually have to stop.  Tongue Tied

  • We tried not swaddling for a few days and it was an ultimate fail. So we now swaddle one arm out. I have some friends who swaddled until 6 or 7 months and their kids had no problem when they stopped. I think if they are truly ready to stop then it won't be a big deal. I will keep swaddling until he rolls back to tummy or he breaks out every night.

  • LO is 4 months today and we tried unswaddling this weekend and it was a freakin nightmare. We are back to swaddling, but I left one arm out last night and that seemed to be okay. We are going to de-swaddle this kiddo gradually...
