When we got our iphones, AT&T let my DH upgrade early for an extra $80 on top of activitation fees. I'd never heard of that option, but it worked for him and might be worth a try. You could also get one on Ebay and just swap sim cards. I know a lot of my hs students do it that way.
are you do for an upgrade? Is it under warranty? Do you have insurance on it? another option is to try ebay for an unlocked phone, my dh has done that before.
I just got it in May with an upgrade. I can't recall the details of the warranty and what I chose when I purchased it. I'm trying to look up that info online, but am not having any luch, so I may have to wait until I'm home to look at my paperwork.
If you're not due for an upgrade, you could add another line to your plan for $10/mo and sign up for a new 2-yr contract on that line to get a discounted phone... then switch your number to that phone. But you will still have your original line and phone you have to pay for until that contract is up. Overall might cost you more than the $650 up front.
Make sure you buy insurance on your new phone! IDK who you have service with, but I pay like $5 month for my droid with verizon. DH pays the same for his iphone. I had to use it when Ethan spilled water on it, and I got a new phone the next day, only paid a $45 deductible for it.
I am pretty sure I bought the insurance with verizon, but I cannot log in to their website right now to find out since I can't remember the password.
Anyway, after reading some stories online, it seems like if I let it be for another day or two I may still have a chance. It was still on when I pulled it out of the washer. It had only been in there for a couple minutes.
I have dropped mine and cracked the screen twice now. If you have an apple store near you take it there. The first time they replaced it for free, the second time I had to pay 200.
My dad jumped in a pool this summer with his iphone in his pocket He was able to open up a new line on his acct for $10/mo and got the promo rate $199 for the iPhone instead of the retail price. He can close out the additional line at 6mos I think. GL!
If you bought it back in May, then it's still covered by Apple's automatic 1 year warranty. There are 2 levels of moisture damage indicators. When I only triggered the first level, the Apple store replaced it for free. The warranty doesn't officially cover moisture damage, but if only the first indicator is triggered, they can still fix and resell it (this is from the guy who helped me).
The moisture killed the display on my phone. If you can still tell that it turns on (put it on vibrate and it should vibrate when you turn it on), then most likely the second indicators have not been triggered. I'd definitely make an appointment with the genius bar. I don't know about Verizon but AT&T cs sucks when it comes to iPhones. Apple, on the other hand, has amazing customer service. I really think that even if you triggered the internal moisture indicator, since you just bought it, they'll still be nice and either replace it or give you a good deal on a new one. Just look cute, bring your kids, and try to get a guy at the genius bar ;o)
Oh I just saw from your other post that you don't have an Apple store nearby. Call them. They really do have amazing cs.
Thank you. I will. I saw on their website support they have a place to enter in the hardware number and you can check the coverage, so I'll try that tonight and then give them a call.
It might be too late for this, but I dropped my phone in the toilet a few months ago, and I ended up putting it in a ziploc bag of rice for 2-3 days. It worked! I just put the phone in and filled the entire bag up. Make sure you take the battery off the phone though. I took mine all apart before throwing it in.

I did put it in rice, as google suggested. It is still in there. We'll see what happens. It's an iphone. I couldn't figure out how to get to the battery or if I can.
