Head first dive off the couch at 13 months???

This is Beau's new thing. At least he will toss a throw pillow on the floor before doing so and try to land on the pillow. Sometimes, he does, sometimes he misses. But yes, he is only 13 months and diving head first off the couch and he thinks it is the funnest thing.

I try to be right there by him when he does it so I can quickly grab him if looks like he is going to land on his neck. Scares the witz out of me.

  • Some boys have no fear. Hayden loves to roll, fall, or jump of the couch (despite my best efforts to stop it). He thinks it is funny. I know he isn't hurting himself so i let him have fun.

  • Gotta love LIttle boys! I sware that J learned how to walk and turned into a little boy/maniac all at the same time. He loves to tackle, chase after the dogs, jump off things ect...

The one thing I don't do is let him dive off the couch..run on the couch (which he would do) it scares the pants off me and I don't need to rush him to the ER.

  • Will fell backwards off the couch at his first bday party because his little cousins (2 and 3 years old) forgot that he was little and knocked him off. The whole party had a collective heart attack, but he was fine. I hate letting him on the couch for this reason! These boys and their stunts!!

My first priority question at his 1 year check-up was this: Will is just starting to walk and he's falling down like it's his job. I know the falls are only going to get more spectacular, even as he walks better, so tell me what I need to worry about when he falls... (FWIW, the answer was an unusual reaction - quietness, listlessness, etc. or a fall from more than 3 feet (which is high and would probably kill me before I had a chance to react)).

  • ha-ha!!  silly Beau!  I've really been trying to work with Jones to teach him how to turn around and slide feet first off the couch, but I don't know what I will do when he figures out that the other way is more fun!!  ;)
  • I can't believe you all let them on the couch.  Daniel falls enough on the floor!

It got past the point of "letting him". By 18 months he learned to climb onto the couch on his own.  I draw the line at jumping on the couch. I am not worried about him hurting himself more about hurting my couch. LOL!

This exactly! I taught him to sit on the sofa and it works every now and again ;) He doesn't jump on the couch but he has a great time sliding off it. I am more worried about the kitchen table and him arranging the chairs just so to be able to climb up the counters right now. I prefer him when he is on the sofa!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

But they are like messy pets, aren't they? LOL

Daniel dives over me on the floor and of course lands on whatever is on the floor.  Lately his Noah's Ark Little People have become like tiny assassins.  I don't know how we're going to get them to 18.
