Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone still use a baby carrier?

We are going up to Lake George for a week in a couple of weeks and want to go on some hikes but the trails are just not meant for strollers. The thing is, DS will be almost 9 months old and will weigh somewhere between 25-30 pounds. Any recommendations for a carrier that will hold him? I'm thinking one of those backpack carriers. We have a baby bjorn but he outgrew that a long time ago!

Re: Anyone still use a baby carrier?

  • My DS is only 18-19 lbs, but yes, we use our carriers all the time.  I don't use a stroller at all.  We use the moby, sling, and bjorn, but I'm guessing you will hear a lot of recommendations for the ergo or beco carriers for hiking?

  • a framed carrier is a must have for hiking! (plus if Dad carries LO that is an added bonus!)
  • We have a backpack carrier and I absolutely adore it. I like it a lot better than the Ergo for back carrying and have been using it almost every day. We went hiking for a couple of hours on sunday and I was comfortable the entire time. Mind you, DS is only sixteen pounds. I don't know what it would be like if he were ten pounds heavier.

  • We use the Ergo, but she won't stay in it for more than a shopping trip. I'd get a framed carrier.

  • We alternate between a ring sling and a woven wrap depending what we're doing. If I were taking DS on a hike I would go with the woven.

  • We have a Deuter framed backpack for hiking and it works great. We went on a picnic over the weekend and it held all of our food plus ladybug and I hardly felt the weight, it was so well positioned.
