BFers - question

Eliza's current nursing schedule looks something like this:

After morning wakeup

Before morning nap

After morning nap

After lunch (sometimes)

Before afternoon nap

After afternoon nap

Before nighttime sleep

And anywhere from once to three times at night

She starts MDO twice a week this week, Tues & Thurs from 9 to 2.  I don't have any BM to send with her, so the pedi has given the okay to send milk with her.

The time frame that she is gone I would normally nurse her anywhere from two to four times (her schedule is all over the clock).  I'm not trying to drop any nursing sessions until she's at least over a year old and would like to continue to nurse her until she's 1.5 or 2. Should I pump while she's gone?  Engorgement isn't a problem, so it won't be uncomfortable for me to not pump.  I just don't know if missing that many sessions during the week will affect our long term nursings

Re: BFers - question

  • How old is Eliza?  I thought she was older than Collin - he is 10 1/2 months.  Currently I am nursing way less than that - perhaps I am doing something wrong?

Collin nurses after he wakes up in the morning and after he wakes up from his morning and afternoon naps.  He dropped his nighttime nursing session about 3 months ago, he just wasn't interested in sitting still for it anymore and since he was STTN I didn't push it.  He sleeps from about 7:30pm to anywhere from 7-10am.

If she's going every week I would pump at least once while she's at MDO.

  • she's 11 months and a week

we still nurse a lot because she's so tiny - I've been reluctant to drop any sessions until she's a year old and we'll see if her growth curve has stabilized

  • I would pump once while she's gone, but I am such a stickler for pumping  around when he would've eaten (whenever possible). If you miss a day here and there, I'm sure it would be totally fine. But if you're home and it's convenient, I'd turn on the DVR and pump for a bit.

  • I would pump once or twice while she was gone.  I was a freak in making sure if we were apart I would pump when she was suppose to be nursing.  I ended up having so much milk, I donated to the Milk Bank.  How tiny is she?

  • She's 17 lbs I think at almost a year - she's been between 15th & 10th on the growth charts.  I think she's just going to be thin, but we've had some weight gain issues in the past, so I'm always worried about it
  • i would pump at least once on the days she is at MDO.

when i started back to work, paige was getting 2 bottles at my mom's but i would only pump once, and it didn't affect my supply.

however, once she hit 1yo earlier this month, we transitioned to whole milk.  now she is nursing when she's with me, and getting 2 bottles of whole milk while at my mom's, but i am no longer pumping, and i saw my supply drop pretty quickly.
