I just thought I'd page you up here...
Jack and Braley both still gag on table foods. They ate pancakes without puking the other day, and I was shocked.
They are gagging on stage 3 foods still also.
While I know it is unnerving, I am not worried yet.
My pedi told me at their 9 month visit that the gag reflex normally goes away when they master the princer grasp, which mine haven't.
Re: Ashonkwiler**
I really don't think it is that uncommon to not have the skills to eat table foods at 9 months. I know there are some kids who are on ALL table foods by this point - but there is just such a huge range of normal.
My kids are eating 3 meals and 3 bottles a day.
I offer them puffs, cherrios, pancakes, - things they can pick up - after every solid meal - just to get the practice.
I figure, when they can figure out how to pick the things up and put them in their mouth, they will be able to swallow without gagging. This was confirmed by my pedi.
Go slowly on the stage 3. Small bites, don't put the spoon too far back in his mouth. And maybe give a bite of stage 3, then a bite of stage 2, as to not overwhelm him.
If he gags, back off and wait a week or so.
I bet he is just fine.
Like I said - I'm not worried one bit about this, and my kids are doing the same thing.
