Pregnant after IF

My boys are here (belated birth story) Long!

My precious baby boys William Griffin and Garrison Gardner were born last Saturday 8/20 at 12:25 am and 12:28 weighing 6lb5oz and 6lb7oz.  It was, by far, the most amazing experience I could imagine!  I am soaking every moment up (no sleep and all).

I was scheduled to have my water broken friday 8/19 in the morning.  My ob felt certain I would go into labor due to William being +1 station, dilated 3, and 80% effaced.  Water was broken at 7:30am and I waited.  I walked the halls, bounced on my ball, and just stayed active.  i requested no IV placed so I could be mobile.  I was checked at 12:30 and had made zero progress.  My OB  recommended I start pitocin.  I was very anti pitocin but was more anti C-section.  They started a low dose of pitocin and slowly increased.

The contractions started picking up and becoming painful.  By 2pm, the contractions were coming every 3 minutes and were killing me.  What saved me was that 2 minute break in between.  I was still wanting to hold off on the epidural.  My mom, doula, and dh were rubbing my back and I was moving from birth ball to hanging over the back of the bed on my knees.  (On a side note; You lose all modesty while in labor).

Around 6:30, my dh is begging me to get an epidural.  I most have been painful to watch.  I feel like I was in another world.  Contractions every 2 minutes with no break.  I was not ready for epi, just trying to make it through each contraction and not think about the next.  Unfortunately, there begin to have no break to catch my breath.  I started sobbing uncontrollably and asked to just have dh with me.  I told him to get me the epi.  I kept saying I was a failure and I was ashamed.  Crazy!  My dh went running down the hall telling the nurses I needed an epi, lol!  I got it at 8pm.  After that, my whole demeanor changed.  I could feel my legs and wiggle my toes but could not feel the pain of the contractions. Heaven!  I was 8cm at this point with a rim of cervix left.

Long story short, I did not start pushing till 11pm.  I pushed for 1 1/2 hours and William was not coming.  My OB was worried about their heart decels so he used forceps to get William.  They placed him my chest and he went straight for the breast.  The most unreal moment of my life.  Garrison came out breach (dr pulled him out). he was limp and needed to be taken to warmer for stimulation.  I held William while they stitched me up (2nd degree)  and then the brought Garrison to me.

I am so so in love.  I never knew there was love like this. We are breastfeeding and it is getting easier everyday.  I have had a couple breakdowns due to lack of sleep but I get over it when I look into their eyes.  I can only hope this for all of you mommies!

I want to say this, I would not change one part of my labor.  I am so glad I experienced the pain.  I felt like an active participant in bringing my boys to the world after such a struggle to conceive them.
