So Rhayna has been biting through pacis. They get DESTROYED. Not like "used and fall apart" but like deliberately chewed to pieces.
I've asked her a number of times to stop, explained its dangerous, how she could choke, etc. She won't stop. We are now replacing them every 1.5-2 weeks. If we give her one that has a swinger (handle) or soft sides (meant for teething), she'll destroy those as well.
So, last week when I gave her this last one, I told her "If you bite through this, its the last one. No more. If you chew this one, we are done with suckies". She agreed (but I get that she's 3 and future tense doesn't compute).
So, today she showed me the paci bitten through. It clicked that that's the last one and she turned HYSTERICAL.
She seems to have this need to chew (on EVERYTHING) so I want to find a solution but its not to keep giving pacis that could potentially be a choking hazard.
Is cold turkey the best way to do this paci thing? I already was compassionate, etc with her but told her no more.
Re: Paci give-up (Davez?)
DD1 has been binky free for 2 weeks now. It was nothing short of a miracle. The "binky fairy" came and took all the binkies away to give to little babies. My BFF just had a new baby, so she is convinced that she gave them to Baby Chloe. The binky fairy brought her a new toy for being such a big girl. She ate it up. We talked about the binky fairy for a few days before "she came".
Good luck. It's hard for everyone involved for the binkies to disappear.
yep, time to pull 'um. The first 48 hours had it's moments, but it WAS easier than I thought. She was 3. I thought I was in for the fight of my momma life.
We ceremoniously threw it away. She walked away and I opened the Prosecco. Within 4 minutes she was digging it out. (so I opened one more, bah dump bah!)
I distracted her and hid it from sight. We talked it out, big girls don't have pacis, lots of compassion, I know it's hard, blah blah blah... somehow she determined the DUMP TRUCK came and took the paci to her lil' cousin. Now she curses dump trucks every time she sees one, but ironically, didn't question lil' cousin as to it's where abouts when she saw her. (said dump truck? STILL on her chitlist)
She didn't nap much after (she does quiet time still) and will still whine about it once in a while. But it WAS easier than I thought it would be. Good luck!
