NBR: Anyone have a 4 year old girl?

I will be watching my friends 4 year old (well will be in 2 months) 2 nights a week for a couple hours and I don't know what to do with her. I bought a couple barbies, a barbie convertible and a couple my lil ponies at a garage sale this past weekend for her. I also got a coloring book and crayons at the dollar store. I know she loves to watch movies, but I don't want to just stick her in front of the tv everytime.

Any other suggestions? Obviously it needs to be stuff that will work well with me being able to take care of my DD at the same time.

  • I don't have a 4 year old but my niece turns 4 this week.  She enjoys playing with Strawberry shortcake and My little Ponies.  She also likes to color and draw a lot so I'd say you are off to a great start!

Unfortunately what she spends the most time doing is playing games on people's cell phones but she will also play educational games online.  We usually use pbskids.org.

  • I babysat a 4yr old all tax season on Saturdays and what she loved was CRAFTS! didn't matter if we glued some glitter on a stick, she loved it!

I once printed out these make your own mobile things for her to color, cut out and hang... forgot they dont allow her scissors, and forgot string for the hanging-- we tore them out of the pages and strung them on pipe cleaners and she STILL had fun :)

  • My stepdaughter is 4. She's recently started to like playing dress up and pretend play. It's cute. She's not much of a colorer. She loves cartoons but I've been trying to limit that and make her play on her own. She still loves her baby dolls and will mock me when I'm taking care of DD.
  • Good call on the dress-up clothes. My 4 year old (Next week, where does the time go?) Loves to play dress up especially with my old high heels. Also she loves loves loves to cook, whether pretend or real. She "makes" me tea all the time and her "food" is old 'mardi gras' beads (even though she has a TON of pretend food upstairs, go figure!) Modern parents messy kids is a good blog with some fun craft stuff on it.... Good Luck!!!
