Best bottles to prevent acid reflux?

Hello!

I'm pregnant with my 2nd baby. My first daughter had a very difficult time with acid  reflux. I used AVENT bottles (had a tough time breastfeeding). I do plan on trying to breastfeed again, but obviously need to have a back up plan for bottles. Any moms out there have good advice on great bottles? I really didn't like the AVENT bottlles (leaked a lot).

 Thanks!! :)

Re: Best bottles to prevent acid reflux?

  • I used the non drop in version of Playtex Ventaire.  I had tried several other bottles, and that's what worked best for him until he outgrew his reflux.

  • We did dr browns with my son who had AR. I hated all the parts to wash but they didn't leak. I've also heard good things about tommy Tipee bottles but I will probably just stick with what I have.
  • I am a ftm, so don't have personal experience, but my aunt runs a daycare and has told me a lot of her Mom's swear by Dr. Browns bottles.

  • I also used Dr Browns. They helped with my son's gas. The parts annoyed the hell out of me though.
  • We used Gerber Nuk - that seemed to work the best for him.

  • I swear by Dr. Brown's.  They worked ten times better than the Avent did for my son.  I plan to use them again.  I breast fed and bottle fed and didn't have problems using one or the other.

I've recently read up on Tommee Tippee and they seem to be an option worth looking into.  From what I understand most complaints come with putting the bottle together correctly.

  • Born free bottles.  I used the glass ones.

As you can tell from the responses, they are all different for each child.  The Dr. Browns bottles made my DD spit up more!

  • I've heard great things about Dr Browns as well although I never tried them because there were so many parts.  We used Playtex dropins and they worked great -- my son took to it right away.

  • I used Dr. Brown's after nursing.  A lot of parts...  But I just ran them all in the dishwasher on high heat every night.  Seemed to work out fine...
  • We tried every bottle made. The only ones that worked were Playtex Ventaire. Dr. Brown's didn't help at all for him. Also liked Nuk.

  • Dr. Brown's do have a few parts, but to me it wasn't anything that'd deter me from recommending them or using them again.  It's pretty much two extra parts and that's it (and they are not difficult to piece together).  The bottle packs usually include the brush to clean them, but extras can be purchased for very cheap.  I also used a bottle steamer or dishwasher which cleaned them just as well.

  • Playtex drop ins, you squeeze out any air then it collapses as the baby drinks so there is no extra air. WAY easier than dealing with the Dr Browns and all their parts [which is just a straw to allow the air to go to the top/bottom of the bottle]
