We were at a wedding over the weekend and we stayed with a friend. Her 16 month old ended up with a 103 degree fever on Saturday. (I'm not sure if she caught a virus or what caused the fever).
I asked my friend who watches DS to take his temp today (to monitor him just in case he caught what she had). His rectal temp was 99.4. I know you are supposed to call the pedi if he had a temp of 100.4 or higher. But when do you give Tylenol? Before it gets to 100.4? Or is 99.4 considered normal for a 2 month old?

Re: When to give a fever reducer? (Tylenol, etc.)
TTC since 11/05...ectopic pg 4/08...early m/c 6/09...BFP 10/5/09!

Nora B...June 15, 2010...8lbs, 8oz...Med-free birth!
TTC #2 since 7/11...cycle #3 of Clomid + IUI = BFP

Malcolm...September 21, 2012...8lbs, 6oz...Another med-free birth!
My pedi said to call if 100.4 or higher. I would not give Tylenol unless it got that high and I would probably OK it with the pedi first. Of course, I don't like to give meds if it can be helped.
FWIW, N's temp is always right around 99.2. I wouldn't worry about a 99.4 temp.
I haven't taken his temp before this to know what his normal is. I feel terrible that I should have been doing this! I might call anyway, it can't hurt. I should know what their position is on giving Tylenol anyway. Thanks ladies!

I don't think you are terrible for not taking his temp. The ONLY reason we know is because MH bought a new therm and he was playing with it. My pedi said there is no reason to take his temp unless you suspect he isn't feeling well. And yes, it certainly can't hurt to call.
