Are you using your diaper bag as a purse?

I'm not sure it's realistic for us as DH will probably be taking the kid to daycare and I'll be picking up, but the thought of having to lug my purse, diaper bag, laptop bag and lunch bag (plus a baby!) down to the car everyday just sounds like major overkill. I need to consolidate!

What are you planning on doing?

Re: Are you using your diaper bag as a purse?

  • I bought a Ju Ju Bee which has a specific Mommy pocket.  If I'm going out and will have DS with me (ie. not to work, etc) then I use the diaper bag as my purse.  I found that trying to carry two bags, I would always leave one or the other.  It's like I picked one up, check marked that box as done in my mind, and walked off.  I didn't ever get too far luckily, but could easily have lost my purse so many times.

I just transfer my 'small wallet' which has my DL, debit and insurance cards, and cash in it, my phone, sunglasses, and keys and I'm set.

  • I used the diaper bag as a purse for DS and plan on doing the same this time.  I left a bag of diapers/wipes/formula/change of clothes at daycare so I didn't leave a diaper bag at daycare.  You will definitely want to consolidate your bags!

  • I've never taken a diaper bag to daycare. Just an insulated bag with his bottles/food for the day. His diapers and wipes I bring in once a week on Mondays.

When we go on outings together, I just take the stuff from my purse and put it in the smaller pocket of my diaper bag. No sense carrying an extra bag around if you don't have to.

  • I will use a large tote bag or backpack for everything.  I learned quick with DS that trying to carry a diaper bag, a purse, and a carseat is nearly impossible and a HUGE PITA.

  • Yeah, I can't carry that many bags, especially with this being #3. I just put my wallet and keys into the side pocket of the diaper bag. On the rare occasion I go out without a child I just put my keys, wallet, and phone into a small purse.

When I was taking DD to daycare, I left her diapers, wipes and extra clothes there (requirement for them) and I brought her bottles for the day in a lunch bag and put them in "her spot" in the fridge.

  • My sister in law bought me a nice bag which is actually just a purse. Messenger style. I'll use that as a purse/diaper bag/lunch bag/whatever else I need it for haha.

  • I double my purse and computer bag. I have a clutch type wallet that I keep in my computer bag.

I bring a bunch of lunch food once/twice a week to work now, then bring little stuff through out the week to supplement it.

For childcare, our nanny will be at our house 1-2 days a week, then 1-2 days at her house. She will have an infant about the same age as our LO, and will be handling just the 2 of them. I'll probably leave a bag in the car that just goes to her place that I can replenish every week or so.

We live on the 2nd floor and have to go outside to our car. I certainly won't be able to juggle all that stuff!

  • I have a large purse that I use as diaper bag and purse since I am a single mommy.  Works really well!!  For daycare I will just pack a small little bag since they shouldn't need a whole lot each day if I stock them up weekly or monthly!

  • I don't take a diaper bag to daycare.  Most things are stored there and what I take on a daily basis fits easily in a reusable grocery bag.  On work days, I carry a purse and whoever is doing dropoff takes LO and the bag to daycare and whoever picks up picks up LO and the bag.

On weekends, I put the stuff that I need for myself into the diaper bag and just carry that.

  • I have a OiOi diaper bag, which doubles as a purse.  It looks more like a purse, than a diaper bag!!

DH will use a backpack for something :)

  • I rarely carry a purse anyways I usually just use my pockets but on the rare occasions I need a purse I will just throw whatever I need in the diaper bag. I hate carrying unnecessary stuff.

A lady I nannied for made me carry two diaper bags and a lunch box and a backpack, if it was an all day thing. It drove me crazy!

  • I always left the diaper bag with the baby sitter so I always had a separate purse and work bag.  The good thing is that I didn't ever have to lug everything all together except in and out of my house to the car and back at the beginning/ end of the work day.  I've never had a little baby in daycare but I think when my little guy starts daycare next fall (he'll be about 10 months old) I'll just take in the bottles/ food that he needs, and bring in the extra wipes, diapers, and clothes as needed because they store that stuff there in their cabinets/ cubbies.
