S/O Wedding Funds- A Poll

Who paid for your wedding?

How much did your wedding cost? (if you feel like sharing)

My parents bought my dress and they let me have it at their cabin. My aunt (godmother) paid for the catering and the cake.

We paid for everything else, DJ, Tent rental, decorations, etc.

I think the total cost was only around $10,000, but we had an amazing wedding.

  • My dad gave us 8k and my inlaws gave us 2k. I think it was around 10k or maybe a little less. I wish I would have used the money a little differently. Like gotten a better photographer and seamstress.

  • Who paid for your wedding?  We paid for the hall, and some of the decorations, my parents paid for most of the wedding.  DH's mom paid for the band.

How much did your wedding cost? Just a little under $10,000.  It was a wonderful wedding though, I wouldn't change anything about it.  We had a nearby Hutterite colony cater.  We had roast pig and it was freaking amazing.

  • My parents paid for everything but my dress.  We kept it to $10,000 and had a great wedding.

  • My parents gave us $5,000, his dad gave us $500 and his mom gave us $1,000.  We paid the rest.

Out total costs were around $12,000 I think.

That's nothing to be embarrased about.

  • My DH's parents (mom and stepdad & dad and stepmom) each gave us $5000, which was so amazing.  His mom and dad had always promised him $5k each towards his wedding.

We had our wedding in our local VFW hall, so that was pretty cheap.  Our caterer was also our decorator and florist and cake baker, and she did my sister's wedding 4 months prior, so she gave us an amazing deal on everything.

For the entire wedding, we spent about $7500.  We used the rest for our cruise.  We signed up for a honeymoon registry, so people could put money towards our shore excursions and what not, so we had like, $700 on the boat to play with.

We didn't spend any money out of pocket. We were incredibly blessed to get that money from his parents.

  • All of our families chipped in.  My father paid for the bulk of it, catering, location, bar, limos, etc.  My mom & stepdad paid for everything I wore and the music. DH's mom & stepdad paid for photography, flowers & rehearsal dinner.  DH's dad paid for the honeymoon.  All together it was about 40k, which isn't that out of the ordinary for a downtown Chicago wedding.  It was an amazing day.

  • My parent's paid for the entire thing. We had our wedding in our church so that didn't cost a thing. Most of the expenses came from the reception and feeding everyone (we had about 350 people), the photographer and flowers.

I'm not sure of the total cost, but I'd say anywhere from $15-20k.

  • My parents paid for everything - all totaled, I think it was around $30k (typical Cape Cod in-season wedding).  My ILs paid for our RD and honeymoon.

  • My parents and IL's paid for our wedding. When we broke it down it was something like this:

    My parents paid for:

    The dress

    flowers

    Photographer

Reception food costs was split between his family and mine

    IL's paid for:

    The tuxes

    The rehersal dinner

*Overall I think we kept it under 10k and although it looks like it was split unevenly...I think by the time the IL's picked up the tab for the rehersal dinner, things evened out pretty good.

  • I bought my own dress and a few other odds and ends.

In-laws paid for rehearsal and also for church expenses.  My parents and my Aunt paid for everything else I think.

When all was said and done, it was about 20K.  Which is a lot I guess, but not really that bad for a wedding with around 130 people in the DC area.

  • Who paid for your wedding? My mom paid for $6,000, My IL's paid for $4500, my dad didn't even show up....we paid the rest

How much did your wedding cost? (if you feel like sharing) Approx $18,000...but was very budget and we cut out alot of costs by doing things such as an at home rehearsal dinner, low priced photographer just starting their portfolio, etc..My DH has a huge family so we couldn't cut the guest list short..so we just kept it cheap in other arenas.

  • We paid 100% ourselves. The whole thing came to just over $5k and $3k of that was our photos. Our venue was free, my dress was free, food was potluck style in place of presents, just wine and a keg, decor was all vintage and borrowed Christmas lights and tables, flowers from the market... It was lovely.
  • DH & I  paid for most of it.  My mom pitched in some money and bought my dress (which was only $500).   IL's paid for the limo.

Total was around $26,000.    HM was another $6K

The IL's also gave us a phenomenal 10 day honeymoon to Hawaii that was probably over 5k.

  • Approx $30k. My parents paid for everything.

(FWIW-- my parents insisted on things like filet mignon and upscale wines and passable appetizers, etc.) I chose to have a Friday wedding because it was cheaper and our reception venue was at a vineyard/winery which was a lot less expensive than if we had gotten married in the city somewhere. I think my sister's was $30-40k as well...

    I hope I don't have 2 daughters, lol.

  • My Mom paid for my dress and the reception. My inlaws paid for our flowers, photog, and honeymoon.

It cost less than 4k. My mom worked for the place we had our reception at, so we didn't have a hall fee and all the food was at cost. It was a great wedding and I wouldn't change anything.

My mom did all the planning.  It was wonderful, I just showed up and got married.

  • After reading the responses, I feel weird answering this, but I suppose being an only child worked out well for me when it came to my wedding. lol

My parents paid for all of it, and the final cost was around $45k. Our venue (and food/drink costs) were HIGH, but my mom really liked the venue and since I wasn't paying - and I loved it too - I went along with it.

Had we been paying for the wedding, it would not have taken place in Scottsdale (which is $$$ and ritzy area just outside of Phoenix) and the guest list would have been considerably less since we wouldn't have invited all of my parent's friends, etc.

We paid for our honeymoon, which probably came out to about 8k.

ditto the bolded.  I knew the venue was expensive and I kept insisting we could keep looking for something cheaper but my parents (dad especially) fell in love with the venue, so I wasn't going to argue!

  • Wow, those were some fancy weddings!  I think our total came to around $2,000-$3,000.  DH & I paid for the DJ and the banquet room for the supper/dance, his parents paid for the rehersal supper, and my parents paid for the rest (dress, decorations, food, and what not).  It was not my mom's dream wedding, but I loved it and wouldn't have changed anything.

  • My parents paid for the wedding. DH's parents and step parents paid for the rehearsal dinner. DH's mom gave us a few hundred for our honeymoon, and we paid for the rest. The wedding was about 40k.

  • My parents gave us $5k, which in-laws offered to match and my mom gave 2k and purchased my dress. Dh and I chipped in whatever we went over, or anything we outright decided to splurge on (last minute limo, having the HM suite 2 nights instead of one, etc etc). Total cost was a little over 15k.

We paid for our HM which was a little over 2500.

  • My parents paid for almost the entire thing. My FIL paid for the band to play our first dance song and our rehearsal dinner. My MIL paid for 150 chair covers. I think it came around $20,000. We only paid for our rings. We got married right before Christmas and our honeymoon to Hawaii was our Christmas present from my parents.

My parents paid for, my dress, my sister's dress (she was maid of honor and only 17 at the time), reception hall, reception food and drinks, decor, flowers, dj, hair and makeup.

My inlaws paid for, DH's tux, rehearsal dinner

My DH and I paid for, photographer, misc things I picked up here and there and all tips (DJ, reverend, cleaning, makeup, hair).

Our honeymoon we paid for and was another $3000

  • I'd guess around $7.5k.

Mom set a budget of $10k, and said we could keep whatever we didn't spend. She paid for almost everything.

MIL paid for rehearsal dinner.  FIL paid for a family vacation (didn't have a traditional honeymoon.)

    If I remember correctly --

I think mom spent about $4k on the food for under 40 people.

About $200 on the dress including alterations.

The ceremony site was about $1200.

    Flowers - $400.

We bought the rings, and  H bought my engagement pendant -- under $200 for everything.

  • My mom mostly paid for the wedding with my college fund (scholarship paid for school). One of my aunts paid for my dress. IL's paid for part of the rehersal dinner and DH and I paid for the honeymoon.

I think we were somewhere around 28-29k with the honeymoon.

  • DH & I paid for everything. Including the honeymoon, the grand total was about 50k. We saved, we researched, we spent, we don't regret a thing. We loved every minute of our wedding so we consider it money well spent.
