PCP vs ObGyn

Do all PCPs provide things like annuals/Paps etc?  I feel like I remember my Primary Care Dr offering to be the delivering Dr for my baby, but I definitely wanted an Obgyn (I've heard to go with an ob vs. a general practitioner which makes sense - no offense to anyone that does though).. so I assume she would also do things like a Pap?

Now that I'm done having kids, it would be much more convenient not to have to go to an Obgyn for a separate appointment, much easier to do "one stop shopping" if that makes sense.  Any thoughts or recommendations?  Any reason not to?

Re: PCP vs ObGyn

  • my primary doc doesnt do paps- they deal in the general medicine stuff- colds, aches, pains...

I dont mind going to my ob especially since that area is their focus and if there was an issue- they would probably "see it" first before someone who might not handle that all the time...

  • When I was younger (and until I moved to Rochester) the PCP I went to had an NP I loved to see and she would to a pap. I wouldn't mind to do the "one-stop shopping" as it were, although I am more diligent about having an annual with an ob/gyn than with a pcp (as discussed in the last post about drs).
