  • Yeah, it always sounds sort of blasphemous to me.  Heaven spelled backwards?!  If you want a praise name, why not just "Heaven?"

When I hear about heaven spelled backwards, I think of the devil voices when you play heavy metal records backwards.

  • I completely agree. I also hate when people replace random vowels with the letter Y.

    Like, Mykynzee or Alyxandra.

I think I'm the odd one out. I actually like certain names with a random Y or some unique spellings. Nothing crazy though and it varies from name to name. Like, I think Jordyn is pretty but that Alyxandra looks ridiculous. My guilty pleasure unique spelling is Ashleigh. I think it's gorgeous. Won't ever use it though since DH has an Aunt Ashley and we agreed not to pick any names of living relatives.

Made-up names bother me completely, though. I can't think of any exceptions.

As a child with a weird "y" name, I was not in love with it. To the point that I had my name changed to it's classic spelling at 16 after tolerating telling people how to pronounce my very simple name all my life.

    Aeryn turned to Erin.

    Thanks, Mom. She understood, though.

I'm glad that your mom understood! I had mine changed, and my mom flipped out...ugh. And all I did was change the order and drop two (my parents gave me three middle names and called me by my middle name...all very annoying. I wanted a normal name too...first middle last and called by my first). I think it's so dependent on the person though. I have a cousin who had her name legally changed from Allison to Alyson because she hated how normal her name was.

Ha! My very good friend is named Aarynn. She hated it so much, in school she would always spell it Erin, and legally changed it when she was 18.
