Minnesota Babies

Fairview or Health East OBs

Hey everyone, I've never posted on the bump before, so hello! My H and I aren't pregnant but I'm starting to try to plan where we would go when we have a baby.  Does anyone have an experience or recommendations for OBs through Fairview or Health East?  We live in Minneapolis so I'd like somewhere not too far away (definitely not south of the city).

Thanks for your help!

Re: Fairview or Health East OBs

  • Well, I work for HE so I guess I am a bit partial.  I don't have any experience with the Fairview docs so I am no help there.  If you were to deliver with HE I would go with the Midwives or Dr Burroughs.  If you go with any of the other OB docs then you get whoever is on call for their group for delivery (that sorta sucks!).  Otherwise I would go with a Family Practice doc who delivers at the HE hospitals so that you are more likely to actually get YOUR doc at your delivery.

  • Fairview is my primary care, but I switched to Health East because their Woodwinds campus in Woodbury has waterbirth as an option and a more drug-free approach with midwives and doulas.  I know a lot of people who have been very happy with Fairview, so I would say decide how you want your pregnancy and delivery to be and see which fits your plan better! :)

  • I see Elizabeth Eckhardt at Fairview Riverside Women's Clinic and really like her.  I have also heard great things about the midwives there.  We'll be delivering at UMMC Fairview in 7 weeks.  From the tour it seemed nice, but I'll know more in October.  :)  I have also heard good things from friends who delivered at Fairview Southdale.

I think Health East is known for a more natural approach to childbirth, although my doctor at Fairview has been very receptive to my desire to be as drug/intervention free as possible. I think both are great options - just a matter of which doctor you click with.  GL!

  • I like the midwife group of HealthEast. I transferred there in the middle of second tri because I wanted to find a health professional trained in water birth - and as another poster pointed out, HealthEast (and Woodwinds) is known for it's more natural/holistic approach to birth.
  • Thanks ladies!  I think I'm going to go with Health East as I like the more natural approach that they take.
