Did I screw up my injection?

When I got the liquid out it measured 1ml. I put it into the bottle with the powder, it dissolved, and when I sucked it back up there was only .5ml! But the bottle was empty! I put it into the second bottle and same thing, the amount of liquid I withdrew was .4ml and that bottle was empty, too. I'm worried that I screwed up somehow. Where did the extra .6ml go?

BTW, I'm giving myself Menopur injections. I got the ones that are all glass and you have to break the glass top off to get the liquid! What a stupid design. One time it came off okay, the other time it just shattered.

I am frustrated and confused. Has that ever happened to you?

I haven't had the volume decrease that much, but I do find I lose .05 ccs or so, with every new vial I mix in. I have a ton of extra diluent if you want to toss those glass vials. Just let me know!

The same thing happened to me when I used Menopur. I think the powder thickens up the liquid and thus it takes up less volume. I could be totally wrong in this response though.

*Edit- I also had air bubbles in when I was withdrawing the diluting liquid so that may have altered your results a bit too.

It has happened to me to a lesser extent. The liquid is just saline so I think the most important part is to make sure that you get all the powder disolved and into the syringe. I would guess that one night of missing a little isn't going to throw things off. Good luck.

I doubt that you screwed it up. I am fortunate that my nurse at work is a saint and gave me my HCG because I was too afraid to do and I was afraid to have my husband give it to me. She told me that it is normal to have less when mixing the saline and powder. I just dont know the difference between HCG and the shot you had to take.I am sure you are fine:)

I've never had it decrease that much, but as long as you got all the powder I would think you would be ok for one shot.

I have a bunch of extra diluent if you need it. And I'm in CA too. PM me if you need it.

I would call a nurse at your clinic to be sure, but I recall something similar happening (though not as much as you describe) when I was doing my injections and all was well. Best of luck!

i used menopur in my last cycle. it happens. my nurse told me to draw it back as quickly as possible, not let it sit in the glass and then put the needle so you can just see it...helps you get the most back out. try not to worry.

i had this happen to me.....when my meds came i saw the glass bottles i started googling and found so many women had the problem with breakage.....i went ahead and posted here and within minutes i had someone offfering their leftovers....take them up on the offer!!! it is on ly saline but with the beakage i found the bottle unusable and soooooo grateful for the back ups....i think i used 3 or 4 of the backup bottles that were sent to me......also as far as the difference in amount before and after the mix, PP was right, the powed will thinken the liquid and make sure you don;t shake the bottles, just swirl them so you don't create so many bubbles and shoot it quickly after the mixing.

you are doing everything the right way and i totally understand the feelings you are having.....i swear i posted teh same thing in may/june.

Thanks everyone! I did another injection tonight and the same thing happened. So I guess that you're all right and the meds really do thicken the liquid. I was crying last night after trying it and my husband didn't understand why until I explained, "This is the ONE thing I am able to control in this whole process and I'm screwing it up!!!" I think I just had a meltdown slowly building and that was the tipping point, haha. Today's went much better, though. Thank you all for your advice.
