Anything I can do for a constipated 6 week old?

My DS is very constipated after we tried to switch him to Up and Up formula.  I've switched him back to Similac, but I think he is still dealing with the after effects of the Up and Up formula because he is very uncomfortable, crying hysterically when he tries to poop.  His poop is starting to look more normal, but it is still very formed and not like newborn poop at all.  Is there anything I can give him to make it easier for him to go?   TIA

    Our local hospital and pedi still recommend dark karo syrup for constipation but not all docs still go by that. They told us to just use a tad in the formula - I believe it was 1/2 teaspoon. It worked for my first DD when she was small (she got constipated at a week old). Luckily I haven't dealt with formula issues just yet with this LO.

    we used dark karo and baby yoga (you can look up itsy bitsy yoga on youtube for for to)

    My aunt is a NP in the NICU that I work in and she had me give the girls a plain glycerin suppository. It just helps them go and works instantly.

    Talk to your pedi first. But Karo syrup is no longer formulated the same way it used to be and is completely ineffective for constipation (check their website). Plus there is a risk of botulism poisoning. My son also has constipation issues. My pedi had me given him 1oz of prune juice mixed with 1 oz of water once a day. We started this right around 6 weeks. It works great. He's up to 2oz prune juice2oz water now, but it still works. Stimulation with the thermometer rarely worked for us.

    TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

    Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

    Our Pedi also told us to give DD a 1/2 oz of prune juice...and she was a little over 2 weeks at the time.
