D.C. Area Babies

REALLY?!

We are staying at our in laws this weekend for a family get-together. This is the first time DS has stayed in their new house ( and in a new crib). When we go to my mom's it takes him a little to get used to the crib we have at her place. He, however, has slept surprisingly well (even with Irene blowing wind and rain like CRAZY). Last night at like 5:30 am {so i guess, this morning} DS woke up  crying. I quickly went to his room, and put the paci in his mouth and waited for him to fall asleep again. He cried a little more, he was more asleep than awake. Whenever he does this at home i let him cry it out and fall asleep- so that's what i was doing.

Knowing that there are other people (DH's sisters) here, i didn't let him cry too long. I made him a bottle to calm him down- and that did the trick!

This morning i woke up to one of DH's sisters complaining that she had been woken for a LONG time because of the baby. DS was really "awake" no more than 3 minutes! DH didn't even wake up! This is so typical of her, she has comments about parenting or what she would do better (or not do) and she doesn't have kids!

DH's Mom came to me a couple of minutes ago and asked me to please be conscious of others sleeping if DS woke up again today.. She offered to take him outside if i was just too tired! i don't know if i'm over reacting, but i'm REALLY annoyed. OBV they know we have a baby, they invited us to stay with our son... there are things that with a 10 month old i cannot control!

DONE! Sorry for the vent! i'm kind of stuck with DH's family and needed an outlet!

Thank you!

  • People who don't have kids:  "Ugh!  Can't you control that thing?  That... that...that... baby?  I mean, I need my sleep - I'm VERY important.  I was awake for THREE WHOLE MINUTES.  I mean, it's VERY inconvenient to be woken up by a baby - I think I'll have someone say something to you instead of saying something myself."

    Confused

I totally sympathize - vent away.  Jerks.

  • I would be so tempted to move to a hotel. If not that, I'd do a big showy apology, basically calling her our for her ridiculousness. Oh, and give DH nighttime baby duty so *he* can hash it out with his family, if need be.

  • I totally get where you are coming from, esp since they invited you and hello, they know you have a baby!

but to be honest, in my child-free day, I'd be mad too if a baby woke me up. Some people can't go back to sleep after waking up so it's possible she did stay awake for a long time.

  • that's ridiculous.

I don't care if the baby cried for 2 hours, unless that hor (uh-huh, I said it) is willing to get up and walk the floor with him, I don't want to hear a peep about it. babies cry, deal with it!!!

sorry you're having to deal with such difficult people! I hope that the rest of the weekend goes better.

  • Thanks Ladies!!

Glad to know i wasn't just being sensitive! today went well.. DH's sister is just a story on her own... gah! whatever! tomorrow we go back home and my dear loved and wonderful son can wake up if he wants to!

  • This is why we stay in a hotel when we visit my parents. Despite the fact that they had two children, they can't help but make comments about crying and other very normal toddler behavior.

  • That is totally ridiculous!  "Be conciousl" my ass!  Jerks!  We always stay in a hotel when we visit IL's but it is because THEY are the loud ones keeping up the baby.

  • Oh, that would be our last visit!  What jerks.
  • I would be ticked too.  I have no mature recommendations since I would want to lash out or say something I would regret.
