Fever question

Would you give your LO medicine (tylenol or etc) for a fever of 100.7?  DS is really uncomfortable and crying whenever we put him down and then just gets even more snotty and upset in addition to the already runny nose he already has.  I know he is sick because he has what I have.  WWYD?

Re: Fever question

  • Absolutely. We give Tylenol for fever and Ibuprofen for teething pain. Dr. Sears has a dosing chart on his website if you need to know how much to give.

  • Yes just make sure it's infant and look up a chart on how much to give.  But yes,  poor baby seems uncomfortable.

  • Thank you ladies, I thought we had some ibuprofen or something around here but we have nothing so DH is off to the pharmacy.  DS did just fall asleep on his own (without crying) while DH rocked him, so he didn't get upset because he was having too much of a runny nose to sleep.  We'll get a few things just to have on hand.  He hasn't ever been sick before so we haven't had to worry about it before, and he made it a few days after I got sick without getting sick so we thought we were in the clear, apparently not.  :-/  Poor guy, I am so hoping he feels better soon or at least stays asleep long enough to at least be less tired, although I am prepping for a long night just in case he needs to be held a bit more than normal to feel more comfortable/safer.

  • We tend not to base our decision to give meds on how high the temp is. We pay more attention to the temperament of our kids.

If DD has a 100.7 temp but is acting absolutely miserable, whining, crying, etc then we'll give it to her.

If she has a 103 temp but is acting completely fine we wouldn't.

Based on the fact that your DS is acting uncomfortable I would give it to him.
