Aww thanks guys! I'll survive, I'm just glad it wasn't cancer or something.
And bright side: if I have a beach vacation coming up, I can just lay off my meds for a week and lose 10 lbs real fast.
When/how did you find out you were sick? Did it have anything to do with that sick spell you had after Georgia was born?
A little bit, but not really. I was sick ALL throughout my pregnancy, as you were, with hyperemesis. It was all throwing-up related and I didn't gain any weight really until the last six weeks when I was put on bedrest.
After she was born, I was given a really strong antibiotic that I'd never taken before, to fend off infection in my episiotomy area, because I was having immense pain. TMI, but it was all internal pain. This antibiotic caused a really bad infection in my stomach which caused more throwing up for quite awhile (worse than when I was pregnant). I remember still being really sick from it when I woke up July 5.
So I've been having stomach related issues for pretty much an entire year. I thought it was all related to pregnancy and the infection. However, I've taken 20 days of a really strong medicine to treat the bacteria...most people get over the infection in less than 7 days of it. So my GI wanted to do some more checking.
I had a colonoscopy last month and spent a day at the cancer center getting tested, and more tests where I drank that barium drink and some other stuff. Ugh. I have colitis (although I'm pretty sure I'm over it now) caused by the infection, and Chron's runs in my father's side of my family in a really big way.
I was way more sick during pregnancy and with the infection, but without that, I probably wouldn't have done all the testing and found out it was Chron's. I started Questran right away and honestly haven't had too many issues beyond the initial ones. I'm also taking something else, I can't remember what it is. I'm starting something altogether new next doctor visit.
With all the tests, I also found out I had refulx (which I thought I was just making up!)....that's why I took Georgia to the doctor for hers, because it's painful. She didn't make too much of a fuss about it, and I knew they wouldn't Rx something unless she was, but I told my doctor how painful it is for me, and that I don't want my baby feeling that every time she eats.
Who ever thought that hyperemeisis could be a blessing in disguise?! I'm really glad they caught it early.
I'm pretty sure I remember you saying Georgia is EBF, has it been difficult with all the meds and tests? I had so much fewer medical problems but all my doctors kept nagging me to P&D, have your doctors ever asked you to pump and dump?

No, not really. She has had 10 oz of formula in her life, and that's when I was in the hospital with extreme dehydration. I wasn't hydrated enough to make enough to keep her full. I wouldn't have minded giving her more if she'd needed it.
The days I went for tests (usually took 8 hours) and when I was i the ER for six hours, I took my pump. Twice my GI has Rx some meds and said to check with my pedi and pharmacist to make sure they were ok. They were not, so I called him and got another med.
BF is so important to me, and it's so important for Georgia's health (IMO) that it's simply not an option for me to not do it for a year, unless she weans herself before then. My GI is an older man, with four kids, and he understands my concern. I think that's pretty important because he has never asked me to compromise how I choose to feed my bebe.
I was saddened to read about your Crohn's diagnosis. DH was diagnosed about 10 years ago. He still struggles with it. It's not "fair." He is headstrong and wants to live like he wants to live, you know? But with medication, he is very well controlled. And he pretty much gets to eat what he wants. And when he doesn't, he pays for it. It's a terrible disease, but like you said, at least it wasn't something worse.
I'll be thinking of you. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing! So far, after cutting everything out, I've added back in slowly and I'm eating what I want. Hopefully I can just keep it under control by not going overboard, and just be able to manage the flare ups as they come along. As I said, it's not advanced in my body at all, and I feel really fortunate for that.
I know that everyone's Crohn's is different, but DH usually has a problem with healthy foods. When he wants to eat better, more whole foods, he seems to have a flare-up. Salads, whole grains, and fruits are his torture foods. For some reason, the greasier the better for his gut.
Glad you have a GI who listens and understands. Those are hard to find!

Awesome! If healthy foods are my downfall I will just continue on with pizza and candy!!!! I am soooo glad I don't have celiac...I would cry if I had to give up carbs.
I love my GI, he's really great. I'm glad I found him early on. My OB referred me to him.
Holy cow, Pook. Not that what I think matters, but I have a whole new respect for you. I can't imagine going through all of that with a newborn. I'm sorry to hear it's been a trying 3 months (well year really since you had pregnancy filled with sickness). Like you, I'm a firm believer in making the best out of any situation that we are presented with. Positive energy and trying to focus on the good in things is probably the best medicine out there. It can't cure disease, but it can certainly make them a lot more tolerable. My hats off to ya, for sure.
