Update to Totally Paranoid

Yesterday I posted about how I thought my symptoms were decreasing.  Last night, I had some bright red blood gushes when I went to the bathroom.  I went to the ER and the bleeding stopped right away. Over about 6 hours I never ended up bleeeding through a panty liner and really never had cramps.  The u/s showed a heartbeat of 171.   However, today I really feel less symptoms.  My boobs really aren't sore and I'm not nausious.  I'm calling my OB on Monday and on bedrest until then.  Honestly, I don't have much hope at this point.

Anyone heard of this?  I have a feeling it doesn't have a happy ending.

Re: Update to Totally Paranoid

  • I have a friend this happened to at 8 weeks and again at 13 weeks both times she thought she m/c.  She went to the ER both times and they found the heartbeat. At 13 weeks she was diagnosed with placenta previa...She carried to term and had her baby on fathers day this year. Don't loose hope... :) take it easy this wekeend until you can get in to your DR. Good luck!

  • The same thing happened to my MIL around 10 weeks. She said that one day she went to the bathroom and she just had gushing bright red blood. She thought she was miscarrying, and she went to the ER but they checked her and everything was fine. She ended up having a perfectly healthy pregnancy and carrying to full term. Sometimes weird things like that can happen, and everything is just fine. Hang in there and keep thing positive! Good news is that they saw the heartbeat at the ER! And about not having many symptoms, don't worry. I know I'm still pretty early compared to you in my pregnancy but mine have been coming and going on a daily basis.

  • I was actually just reading a pregnancy book that goes week by week and it mentioned bleeding during the first trimester. It said that although sometimes it does indicate m/c it is also completely normal for some women to bleed and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. I hope your appointment on Monday goes well, T&P's!!!

  • I'll send positive thoughts your way.  I hope everything will be ok.
  • sounds like it could be a hematoma to me.  I know lots of women who've had them.  (Maybe it is more common for women who have gone through fertility treatments?)

It usually takes a few weeks to go away but only very rarely negatively affects the baby.

    take it easy, good luck!

  • Sending you positive thoughts! A friend had bright red bleeding at 8 weeks and 11 (or 12?) weeks and she is now 19 weeks with a healthy baby girl. There was no explanation for the bleeding in her case.

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. I don't know about the symptoms thing, but I have heard of several people having a lot of bleeding during the first tri and ending up carrying the baby to term w/ no more complications. Hopefully this is the  case with you. A good, strong heartbeat is a good sign!
  • Hearing the heartbeat is a great sign, hopefully the bleeding was just one of those things.  Sending positive thoughts!
  • Did they mention anything about a subchorionic hemorrhage/hematoma? I had one with my first pregnancy and they warned that it could cause bright red bleeding.

  • One of my pregnancy books did mention symptoms aren't always consistent from day to day. I know I've found this to be true myself.  Some days I have nausea, cramping due to round ligament pain, constipation......and then other days it seems like I'm not even pregnant and I haven't had spotting (knock on wood!) T & Ps go out to you, I think hearing the heart beat is a great sign!!

  • Thanks for the positive thoughts. The u/s tech took a ton of meaurements and looked for a good while and said that she saw no reason for the bleeding.  I would think a hematoma or placenta previa would show up, but maybe not?

Can't wait until I get some answers.

  • I've been bleeding off and on since 5 weeks and every week I go in and baby is still ticking away :) It may be a yeast infection (which is what I'm almost positive my problem is) or something else irritating the lining of your vag, causing you to bleed without any damage to baby. Just keep getting checked out, just to be safe!

  • Years ago I had a hematoma and placenta previa which caused quite a bit of bleeding (I thought I was just having a period) but then the morning sickness came in bigtime so I went to my doctor and found out I was 9 weeks pregnant. I was put on bedrest for the entire pregnancy and had a healthy baby. Im sure your OB will order another ultrasound but the fact your baby has a heartbeat right now is a really good sign. Im praying for you!
