potentially dumb question about RLP

What is it? I've seen numerous posts about it, but never really knew what is was or where it's felt. Yesterday I started feeling sharp shooting pains up my belly on the right side. It seems to be completely random but when it hits it will come for a second, go away, come for another second, go away, etc for about a minute or two. I've never felt anything like it. Does that sound like RLP?

Re: potentially dumb question about RLP

  • It is hard to know what all the pains are during pregnancy so this is not dumb! My chiropractor told me that if you put a finger on your belly button and a finger on your hip bone and glide them both down to a 45 degree angle on either side (until your fingers meet) that is where RLP occurs. She said it can feel as if it's in a different place because of how pain radiates but this is where it starts. My RLP usually feels more like a stretching or pulling and if I move too quickly it can be sharp for a minute. It sounds kind of like you're having RLP but it's hard to tell, if it goes away that's always a good sign!

  • Thanks! That helped a lot. That's the area where I do feel it, but it does radiate upward. It's really strange and sometime takes my breath away from how sudden it is. As long as I'm not cramping, spotting, or anything of that sort I'm not worried...I just didn't know if this was the round ligament pain everyone kept mentioning. This is my first pregnancy so I'm pretty ignorant (haha) bear with me! Thanks again.
