3 month hair loss?

I had heard that hair loss around 3 months post partum was common, but I guess I had to see it to believe it, lol. Anyone else suddenly losing lots of hair?

Re: 3 month hair loss?

  • Yep...it just started in the past couple days.  Though the only reason I noticed was because of the Yeti trying to emerge from my drain lol.  MH asked if I was going to go bald!

  • i'm so ready for mine to fall out! I had thick hair to begin with that was heavy, and now it's even thicker and heavy, I hate it...mine just started to fall out this week and is all over the place!

  • With DS #1 I "molted" at 3 months exactly. With DS #2, I've already started to notice my hair loss starting, but it's not that extreme yet

  • I just noticed and escaped hair or two yesterday.

With my other kids it got so bad that I ended up with a bald patch on my temple.

  • Oh no... I knew it happened PP but I thought since I hadn't noticed anything yet that I would be okay and not lose too much.  I didn't know 3 months was the given mark. This is going to suck, I don't really have any to spare because my hair is so thin to begin with!

I may just have to get a mom haircut. *shudders*

  • I've started losing it and it's coming out by the handful. It's gross.

  • I lost so much hair in the shower the other day I actually gagged. I must brush my hair out 6 or more times a day just to keep in manageable. I use a stiff bristly brush before the shower, a wide tooth comb in the shower, a vent brush for my wet hair and a paddle brush for while I'm drying my hair and through the day. I pull so much hair out of those brushes that it makes me ill. And I still shed everywhere. I'm constantly finding my hair on LO, the furniture, the counters, etc.

I brought food to a pot luck the other day and warned everyone that there might be hair in the food because I literally can't control where it goes. I'm so ready for this part to be over.

  • Crap, I thought I was in the clear. I lost a ton of hair after Gavin was born and have been losing a little bit but I didn't remember it took until around 3 months for it to REALLY start coming out. I got two little bald patches around my forehead last time.Sad

  • YES! I've been losing a ton of hair. I'm in desperate need of a hair cut too so it's doubly gross. I'm going to get one next week and hoping that makes it a little more manageable.

  • Mine started around 2 and half months and has yet to let up. I don't know how I'm not bald. My brother commented on it being all over my back yesterday and you know there has to be a lot there for a guy to notice...someone on here awhile back said it peaks between 3 and 6 mo. I hope mine has already peaked!

  • With DS1 I remember losing my hair around 3 months and I was in the shower and my hair just kept falling out and I started hysterically crying because I have very long curly hair so it all got clumped together and I couldn't get the fallen hair to stop creating HUGE knots in my hair and I felt like I was balding....my DH ran into the bathroom because I was literally hysterically crying and all he saw was hair everywhere (looks worse because each hair strand is so long so it looks like a LOT of hair) and me standing with hair in my hand just losing it. He had to usher me slowly out of the shower and brush my hair for me because I was so distraught....yes I was a bit melodramatic but it scared me so much. I literally thought I was balding.

I haven't really noticed hair loss yet but at least this time I'm mentally prepared for it!

The bolded.  It was bad too and I even ended up going to the doctor to see if the pregnancy hormones had affected my thyroid cause I lost so much and mine didn't stop after 3 months.  It was more like 5-6 months but still 2 years later with DD#1 I still had some excessive shedding.
