Just wondering what everyone's nightly feeding routine is like. I have a 4 week old and this is a typical nightly feeding.
LO wakes up and I feed her on one side laying down for about 5 minutes. Burp her (usually she spits up a little...) Change her diaper, feed her on the other side for about 5 minutes laying down (she usually falls asleep and I get excited...) put her back in her bassinet where she proceeds to wake up
I try to burp her again, reswaddle her and then rock her to sleep (this could take anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes )
This whole process takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Although lately it has usually taken an hour.
Just wondering what everyone else's routine is. Do you always change diapers or try to burp your LO at night? How long after they feed do they return to a nice deep sleep?
TIA!
Re: Bf Moms, Nightly Feeding Routine
DS - 5 weeks - stays in the living room with us till we go to bed between 10-11. Sooner or later we will start an earlier bedtime routine when he starts sleeping in his crib in his room.
We go to bed and DH will either fall right to sleep or stay up with us and he'll watch some tv while DS nurses. We change his diaper and clothes (DH will usually do this while I get ready for bed), then he gets swaddled and nursed. He typically nurses 40-50 mins (both sides) before being ready for bed. He has to burp between boobs and after the second or he will spit up. I only change him again if he has pooped (don't want to wake him) and usually that happens between boobs when he does poop while eating.
His sleeping does vary, though - sometimes he wakes every 3-4 hours, but occassionally will do like last night - slept for 6 hours, nursed, was wide awake (which usually he isn't), put him back in his bassinet and he fell asleep (usually he won't fall asleep on his own) and then slept for another 4 hours before I woke him for the morning.
typing one handed with a lo in the other so please forgive me.
we start getting ready for bed at 9 and by 10 DS is asleep in his crib, he gets up at 2 to eat, I bring him to bed with me and let him eat in the side laying position. If I know he's got a poopy dipe, I change it BEFORE feeding him so I don't get him fully awake when he's settling down. he seems to get less air during the side laying so I don't burb unless he gets a little fussy to let me know he needs to. I also don't pick him up to switch sides, I'll just lean forward a little to offer the other boob. when he's in the 'milk coma' state, I slip him off the bed and into hs cradle my father made for him that is right next to my bed. minimal movement of lo. if I fall asleep before him, we just sleep together until we get up at 6 for the day.
so, my night time interuption is only about 15-20 minutes.
DD is 6 weeks today and has had the same routine for two weeks. She sleeps in our room and I don't have to get out of bed to do any of the following:
She's fed and asleep by 9:00pm.
First wakeup is anywhere from 1:30-2:00am. I feed her on one side (sitting up) until she breaks the latch - usually 10-15 min. I change her diaper and feed her on the other side until she breaks the latch again - usually another 10 min.
Second wakeup is anywhere from 4:00-6:00am. Same feeding routine as the first wakeup.
She'll wakeup between 7:00 and 7:30 and be up for the morning.
ETA: I meant to say that when DD is asleep by 9:00, I make sure I'm ready for bed so I can be asleep by 9:30. 9:45 at the latest. I make the most out of it.
Usually he wakes up, I take him to the living room and feed him on one side for 5-10 minutes. Then I burp him (usually comes up pretty quick) and feed him on the other side for 5-10 minutes, although sometimes he falls asleep so heavy after the burping (even though it's fast!) that I can't get him to wake up and take more. Kind of sucks because then that boob gets super engorged, sometimes I pump it to be more comfortable.
Then I change his diaper and put him back in his crib. He usually falls asleep right away but sometimes I have to rock him for about 5 mins or so. Whole thing takes about 20-30 mins, unless I have to pump after, which takes longer.
I have to change his dipe with each feeding, he pees some HEAVY diapers at night and I wouldn't want to leave him in it longer than necessary.
DD is going on 6 weeks and right now our bedtime still revolves around her. At 8pm we change into pj's and dim the lights in the living room, then hang out until she wants to eat. Eat, change diaper, eat again, then go to our bedroom to sleep around 10pm.
We tried adding a bath last night and it got her so riled up she didn't settle to sleep until midnight, so no more sleep baths for us!

This is almost our routine exactly. We put LO in his crib though in his own room.
DD is now 8 weeks and has been averaging 5-6 hours at a stretch for the past couple weeks.
Because she's been kinda beastly in the evenings, we're trying to get into a routine to keep her as distracted as possible. The details vary a little, but it goes something like this:
6:00pm - nurse, both sides
7:00pm - In the stroller for a walk around the neighborhood (weather permitting)
8:00pm - bath (soap every other night)
8:30pm - lotion massage, naked butt time, jammies
9:00pm - nurse, both sides, burp in between boobs, no diaper change unless I hear/smell poop
10:00pm - put her in her RnP w/ binkie & fan for white noise. Sometimes she'll fuss & wake up if she drops her binkie. Usually asleep by 11:00pm, when I also go to bed.
~4:00am - wake up, nurse sitting up, one side. No diaper change unless there's poop. Lights stay off, no talking or singing.
~6:30am - wake up, change diaper, nurse lying down. Doze in bed together until around 8:00am.
Of course, now that I've actually written this down, I'm sure she'll be up until 2am tonight!
DD is 2 months today, and we're getting into a steady routine. She usually falls asleep between 9:30 and 10:30pm and will sleep until around 4 to 5am. We will change her diaper, then I feed her about 5-10 min on each breast, then back to bed for another couple hours before she's up for the day.
Oh, and I do burp her during the nighttime feeding, but if she doesn't burp and falls asleep I'm ok with putting her down since she's still in the RnP in our room.
After 3 failed Clomid+TI cycles, DD was conceived with IUI#1

You're talking about the middle-of-the-night feeds, right? Our routine looks exactly like yours. Every now and then she stays asleep after the second boob, but most often I have get up and burp or rock her several times. Last night she was just wide awake! Happy, cooing, smiling, but not sleeping.
I try not to unswaddle her and change her unless I hear her poop.
DD2 is 6 weeks. She eats around 8 after her bath, usually 20 minutes on one side, then she takes a mini nap. She will nap anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. I go and put her down in her crib. She gets up and usually has a fussy time and all she wants to do is be walked around. This usually lasts between 30-60 minutes. Then she will eat again, usually 20 minutes on both sides. She falls asleep at the breast. I put her down anywhere from 10:30 to midnight.
I always burp her after she eats or switches sides. I usually wait until she is in a deep sleep before putting her down, so probably around 20 minutes. I like to cuddle with her. When she wakes up I always change her diaper, it's usually dirty and I can't stand letting her sit in a dirty diaper.
